AN ALUM'S GUIDE TO GETTING THROUGH UNIVERSITY

This came about because I was talking with someone last night who is shipping off to higher education this fall, and I was trying to impart my wisdom in an organised fashion; I've also been helping people with essays recently, and wanted to talk about just how easy it is to write a good essay. And of course, I'm watching my academic career draw to a close, and I've been pondering what the most important lessons I've learned are.

I've always felt that someone who had just recently been a college student ought to write about the things the study guides don't tell you -- not how to pass classes or tests (though I'm including that), but how to navigate life at college.

These are recommendations I've made based on four years at a small, private liberal arts university and three years at a large, predominantly science-and-technology oriented university. I've also drawn these conclusions from talking with other people about the educational system, both as a student and as a teacher. Of course these are all my opinions and certainly, not having attended every university ever, some of these things may not apply to you, especially as I haven't had many classes in the sciences. Deciding which suggestions to follow is just a warm-up of your discernment abilities and excellent preparation for college anyway. :D
