i'm trying to buy a laptop for college. which one is better? i'm planning on going into the science field, i don't know if it makes any difference or not.

Read through these threads for more information on the pc vs. mac discussions.

Your choice may hinge on what area of science you plan to major in. A recent thread from a biology major indicated that important biology software ran on Macs. She's getting a Mac. Then again, other scientific fields may have only Windows based software. Check out the computer requirements at your college department's website (and not the school's home page). Different departments may have a peferred system for their students to have.

For instance, the Engineering Dept. of The University of West Florida requires that all incoming freshman entering their electrical and computer engineering programs must have a Tablet PC.

just to let you know i have a mac come to find out must of the software my classes use are only for pc so if your class requires you to use software make sure you know if its for pc or mac.

um...just a question, do you mean the apple fruit? i dont get what's the difference between an apple and a pc

I've been fighting the good fight for the last couple of years for PC's. Going to art school, I was the minority, ridiculed and reviled for my deviant ways. Forced to endure hour upon hour of graphic design class without being able to right click! It's been a dark and dangerous world, but I trudge onward...wait a minute, those powerbooks are kinda pretty....

no right clicking?! O__O yeah. powerbooks are pretty.. but.. I'm used to PC so I prefer PC.

For the mainstream user, PCs are usually preferred, if you have needs for special types of apps like photoshop as your focus then a mac is right for you. If, however, you are the typical student, in terms of hardware, software, ease of use (for those with prior PC experience), and cost, PCs are probably a better choice.

Either is probably going to be fine. See if your school recommends one, if they don't get what you like more / what you're used to.

You can click-click which is the same as right-click.

Actually, you can right click in Mac if you have a 2-button mouse. It does the same thing as in Windows: pop-up menu.

ya and you can just do ctrl (or command i think it is on the mac keyboard) and then just left (or only) click and its the same thing. either way, just because a mac comes with a 1-button mouse shouldn't be the deciding factor as to whether you buy a mac or pc.

Plus, you can get a powerbook with bluetooth and get wireless mice :)
