I recently had a conference with my guidance couselor. We talked about my college choices and she said i needed more matches/safeties. I had thought that UMass Amherst was a safety and BC/NYU were matches but according to her, I'm going to have a hard time getting into any of these. So what do you guys think?

BC & NYU are high matches. Tufts is as much of a reach as Northwestern (actually, it's more selective than NU though negligibly so), which means, they're both still reaches. I agree with your GC that you need safeties.

Your SAT IIs are very impressive, but I'm not sure how you got your SAT out of 2300. Anywhoo, I would get maybe one or two safeties. You're lookin' at all nationally-known schools, and I'd hate for May to roll around and get rejected by all of them. Just a thought.

I think you're a match for BC and NYU. Maybe a teeny tiny bit on the high match side, but your SATs are awesome and you have good ECs. Your gpa is the only downside to your app. honestly, I think that really really really hurts your chances at the reach schools.

UMass would be a safety except for the fact that you are out of state.

And quite frankly, I think you could apply somewhere a bit more competetive as a safety. Something with more like a 60 - 70% acceptance rate, not 80% like UMass.

i like your overall choices. Sure, you could have more safeties, but you will get into Umass amherst sooooo whats the point of more schools you dont like??

i suggest you not change too much, if anything add a reach if you have money to spare

"i like your overall choices. Sure, you could have more safeties, but you will get into Umass amherst sooooo whats the point of more schools you dont like??"

This is exactly what i was thinking!I'm pretty sure I'll get into U Mass.. and I would be perfectly happy if I ended up going there, unlike how most people feel about their safeties.

^That's a good attitude. Safeties shouldn't be places you don't want to go, but rather, places you would be happy at...

Another thought, about NYU: Their financial aid program is often cited as being one of the worst in the country... i'm quite sure you need aid, so that's something to remember..
