An AWFUL sophomore year...

Hi guys~
So I'm a junior currently in a private school that's pretty difficult to learn.
And so my story goes down like this:
My Freshman year was a BREEZE. all A's and A +'s (maybe 1 A-) a lovely 4.12 GPA
But then comes my sophomore year. and I have 5 B's. Which pulled me out with a 4.02 GPA. The first semester, I got B's in Calc AB, Chem Honors, World History AP, and Spanish 3 H. The second semester, I got 1 B in Chem.
I don't know what to do. Though I am a junior, I am intensely worried. I really REALLY want to make it to one of the top 20 schools in America. So many threads and people have told me that a single B will screw you over with prestigious universities.
So can anyone give me some feed back?
(I haven't taken the ACT or the SAT yet)

Thank you so much!
(Please be blunt if the bottom line is I can't get in anywhere prestigious. I won't hate you.)
:)

You’re Asian on cc and got 5 B’s? That’s the first and you stand out  Seriously, concentrate harder this year to show an upward GPA trend; study for SAT/ACT; get involved… You’ll be doing fine. BTW, top 20 schools by whom and why? Is 22nd school as good? or 25th? Hope you see my point. There are many, many wonderful schools.

Thank you for the reply~
And I meant for colleges in the general area of like Vanderbilt, Cornell, UChicago and such for their law schools
Yea… I’m so scared. 5 B’s is so disgustingly awful… I don’t know what to do.
But if my GPA is still above a 4.0… do you think that will help?

Why do you think your grades dropped? Did your study habits deteriorate or did the material get harder? Were the grades the result of choking on exams or not doing as well on projects? Did you talk to your teachers to see how you might improve? Sophomore year is often harder than freshman year in high school. You may not be alone in experiencing a drop in your grades.

And you should get some perspective. 5 Bs is not “disgustingly awful” at a challenging school. Don’t focus on where specifically you’ll go to college or graduate school; focus on learning in the here and now, and the future will take care of itself. Good luck.

The bad news is… you’re Asian. Which means if you’re applying to Harvard, Princeton, Yale, or Columbia, then the chances are slim unless you’re an Olympic gold medal winner. But if you’re talking about Vanderbilt, UChicago, etc. then YOUR’E FINE! Don’t stress. They’ll be impressed that you took Calc AB as a sophomore and they’ll also take into consideration your course load. You’ll be fine  Keep your grades up!
