an education consultant

I wonder if I will need one to prepare an application to boarding schools for next year.
I wonder how complicated the preparation could be. Does it take too much time?
Could anyone please share experiences?
Thanks.

An education consultant would definitely be overkill.

The process is complicated and time consuming. You have to be organized, especially if you're applying to more than one or two schools. However, if you need an "education consultant," as opposed to completing the applications yourself, boarding school might not be the best idea.

That's true, solstice, it would be overkill if an education consultant was actually someone who helps applicants complete applications. But they're not that...and much more than that.

An educational consultant can be invaluable if s/he steers you to the 3 or 4 schools that would be absolutely perfect for you. It could be a huge waste of money if you just want hand holding or to save time (presumably by having the education consultant take care of matters that are typically handled by the applicant).

Here's what one educational consultant claims that these professionals can offer: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/4573663-post13.html

Here's another thread on the topic: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/359905-consultants.html

There are other threads here that are on point. I don't think there's a blanket answer to the question. It depends on what you already know, what you need help with, whether you can identify and find the consultant that will meet your needs, how focused the consultant is with boarding school placements, the consultant's reputation with the schools you're interested, etc.

The only thing that's definite is that it's definitely an option worth exploring if you have the resources to follow through with the decision. Basically, it's a definite possibility.

Yes, an educational consultant would be awesome.
I made the mistake of doing it by myself.
As a result, I am totally disorganized and they keep you on task.
