I posted once before about an issue I had with the UVA office of Virginia status in which they incorrectly determined me as ineligible for in-state privileges. After appealing the decision, the mistake was fixed- but not until March 4th or later. Unfortunately, today I was notified that I had been rejected from UVA.
If I had no reason to doubt the decision, I would have accepted my rejection as the final word. However, my primary concern (ever since the trouble with my Virginia status determination) is that they evaluated my application while it was still incorrectly classified out-of-state, which I know is far more competitive in admissions. If I had applied from out-of-state, I would not have been as surprised with my rejection. I have good reason to believe that if my application was evaluated as an in-state application, I could have been admitted. I know many people try to appeal rejections for silly reasons; however, I think my concern is valid. What are the grounds for appealing a rejection with valid cause? Has anyone successfully done it for UVA? UVA was one of my top choice schools, maybe even my number one, and I hate to think that my rejection was caused by a stupid error and bad timing. Any opinions or suggestions are really appreciated. Thanks.

I think you certainly can request a review to confirm that the admission decision was conducted with the accurate information on your residency status. I wouldn’t assume that it was done inaccurately, though – I would just politely request the review. If they truly are your number one school (and you would attend if admitted), let them know that as well.

I have the same issue, where I was posted as being ineligible for in-state aid. I tried to call a person from the school on this matter but I was not able to reach her many times, after which I left a voice mail. My status still hadn’t been updated and now I have been rejected. I really hope there is a way to appeal this decision?

A change on March 4th was definitely seen. We weren’t done with our review until Friday.

When someone’s status changes late in the season, we get an email alerting us to it.
