I’ve heard some students that were accepted to Ivy League schools say that they used the Additional Info section to share a second essay with the admissions officers. But I’ve also heard others say less is more. What are your thoughts?
I think an extra full essay is not what is intended for that section, and I doubt that most AdComms are excited to read another essay. Being clear and concise is important. You want your app to be your story, so think about what you feel might be missing from the rest of your app that you’d like them to know.
My kids used this section to expand on particularly meaningful activities or awards (mentioned in the activities/awards sections, but where the character limits there just weren’t enough to express the details/importance to them) and/or to explain something unusual (medical issue, course choice/sequence, etc).
I agree with the above poster who said:
If a college wanted another essay, they would have asked for another essay. One should be able to convey one’s message within then parameters that the college gives for the application.
Admissions officers are swamped and are not looking for extra essays to read.
