An extra teacher rec?

Can I send in an extra teacher rec? Would I just print out another Teacher Report B form or something? Would this confuse them, getting two B forms?

Thanks.

No, they won't get confused.

I don't think they'll get confused, but they will realize that you failed to follow instructions and sent in 1 more rec than they wanted. I don't think Columbia is one of those schools that wants a 3rd rec, even if it'll add an extra perspective or whatever.

According to the website, Columbia only encourages an extra recommendation if it's from a college professor with whom you have done research. Columbia "discourages" other extra recommendations.

I sent in 3 teacher recs. Don't worry too much about it.

sending three teacher recs is just GREEDY!
and a waste of a stamp.

yeah...they say it dilutes the quality of reading the application.

ughhh guys guys guys. im really sorry to say this, especially for those who already did this, but i went to a multicultural recruitement ceremony and like FIVE different admissions officers, Ms. Marinaccio being one of them, SAID CLEARLY: follow the DIRECTIONS on the app, that is an admissions officer's biggest pet peeve if an applicant doesnt follow directions. it CLEARLY states on the app to not send in an extra recc. unless you did like special research with the teacher....ugghh i pray for you guys rolls eyes

Yeah...similar to Georgetown "requesting" you to have 3 SAT IIs. Basically you have to have 3.

don't exaggerate CU4L91, I went to a similar program at Columbia, and they said that sending an additional letter of recommendation wouldn't be a big deal if it reflects one of your passions that is made evident throughout your application.
They may not read it, but it's not like you're going to get rejected JUST for sending an extra letter.

cu4l91:

you sound like a major prick; i hope i never meet you next year if i get in early decision.

lol sorry if i sounded kind of snobbish, i posted it early on thanksgiving day and i was in the midst of doing chores. basically i talked to a few people: Ms. Ruqayyah Abdul Karim(if she reads this she is going to kill me b/c i think i spelled her name wrong; she is the BSO prez), Ms. Aquino, Mr. Johnson, Ms. Marinaccio....the list goes on. and they ONE BY ONE said to follow the directions on the app. Alejis, you may be right on the fact that they may just not read it.....but are u REALLY REALLY willing to take that chance-i kno im not. And nahshimshimhaeyo, sorry if i give off that type of feeling but isnt that the whole reason why this site is created...its to help prospective students. im an early decision candidate just like the rest of you guys, we are all potentially competition but i think its awesome that we can still find a way to help each other out. im rambling rite now, but yeah my case still stands....dont send the extra recc. unless its really important.

Well if they've already sent it it's really not that nice to tell them that they're pretty much screwed when it's not true.
Obviously they want you to follow instructions, but it's not like they've committed some horrible crime. They sent an extra letter of recommendation, big deal.

alejis, you seriously dont get it and the other comments that i've posted havent clicked for u yet so i'd appreciate it if you'd just keep to urself...thnx :)

Relax, you're speaking like you're the authority on the matter, and believe me, I get it perfectly. I heard all of this from the same people that you did, people who are actually employed by Columbia University, and none of them talked to me the way that you are talking to these people. Get over yourself.

.................so is it good to send one in or not? haha I did see that part on the Columbia app instructions, too... but the other ivy's seem to accept add'l recs... I'm RD

any past accepted students who sent in an add'l rec?? will it count against us?

well, if it gives any comfort to any other ED applicants, I seriously blew up the whole extra information part. i sent in two extra letters of recs and attached an overblown resume. i can imagine the admissions officials picking up my app at 2 AM thinking, *** is wrong with this kid. hopefully they'll simply ignore the resume and one of the letters and read my app without too much contempt, but i've become very worried about it.

moral of the story, some extra stuff won't kill you, but DON'T overdo stuff like me because i feel like i overdid everything to the point where it reflects poorly on my character.

i sent in 1 extra recommendation because my math teacher's recommendation was kind of generic.

monicaglee, it's really up to you.
Like CU has been saying, you really should try to follow the instructions as closely as you can.
I was told that an extra letter of recommendation that reflects on a passion that is made evident throughout the application would be okay, but if you do send it, don't send anything else. Count that letter of recommendation as the Additional Info.
