An honest opinion of my chances?

I don't want to give a laundry list of what I've done, but I think it's the only way to get an honest opinion. I suppose that I'm just wondering how much emphasis is placed on SAT scores vs. grades. vs. the writing section? (I want to be a business major)

I have a 1990 SAT score, 4.13 weighted GPA (3.96 unweighted), 5 on AP Eng Lang/Comp, 4's on APUSH and AP Euro, and I'm currently taking 3 AP's (Stats, Eng Lit/Comp, Gov), 1 IB (Psychology), and one college course (environmental science/conservation biology).

My SAT score isn't as strong as the "regular" applicant, but I feel as though my writing may make a difference.

-Marching/concert band for four years (holding three leader positions: recruitment/retention officer, vice president, and president)
-National Honor Society for three years
-California Scholarship Federation for two years
-180 community service hours
-CEO of my fictitious business class
-September Senior Student of the Month

Let me know how I'm doing...
Thank you!

Sorry, but that SAT score will probably be damning. While your app might be competitive in other schools, I don’t think any essay besides the Essay of Essays can make up for it. Your other stats are fine, but in your pool, they are ordinary and do not stand out.

Penn is a really selective school, you see. :(

It’s a high reach.

Hard to read it, but it’s reasonably stated. Ha thank you!

UPenn is definitely my reach, I just don’t want to apply if there’s absolutely no chance of getting in. I have heard so many conflicting stories of who has been accepted and who hasn’t, so I really just need the feedback.

By the way, how has anybody been in NHS for 3 years already? We were only allowed to apply 2nd semester of junior year, and everyone found out whether or not they made it about 3 weeks ago so we don’t even have board members chosen yet.

1990 is not that low. Especially for CAS. Go for it.

Danimals510- we are allowed to apply sophomore year at my school, so I’m going on my third year.

Wharton- I’m just afraid they may see it as too low. But it is my reach, so I can give it a shot. Thank you!

Everything just depends–rememeber, Ivy admission is like a lottery ticket.
