an I get into U of M? 28 ACT 3.5 GPA

So I have a 3.449 GPA and hope to get a 28 on my ACT. THe GPA is low because i did really bad freshmen year (3.0) but I had all HONORS classes at that time. Otherwise, sophmore and semester 1 of junior year I got all A's and one B. I am not in IB. My extra carricular include:
- I've been in a musical
- Cultural Dance
- LifeTeen (Catholic Club)
- National Art Honors Society
- 4A's Club (volunteer, community service club)
So do you think I can get in? I do live in Michigan
-Is there anything else UM wants to see? I really dont play sports at all.
I am in accelerated math, accelerated french, AP English, and I hope to take AP Economics, AP English, and AP Psychology senior year.
- Does UM even look at your senior year?
. I have no college money saved up.

I have very similar statistics, just wanna say lol. Michigan doesn’t count freshman GPA if I remember correctly, but someone will have to confirm that I’m not 100% sure

Sent from my SCH-I535 using CC

well that would be great if they didnt!

They didn’t count freshman GPA like 3 years ago but now they just count the unweighted GPA that’s reported on your transcript. If there’s not an unweighted on your transcript they’ll calculate one with all your grades.

What does that exactly mean? If she had a 4.1 weighted freshman year it would be combined with the unweighted grades later on and averaged out?

lol i got in with a 1730 SAT and 3.4 UW GPA…anything can happen

Pretty sure Michigan counts your UW freshman GPA.

^^^No it means they use your uw gpa over four years.

Michigan looks at your UW GPA for the first three years (Freshman-junior). They look at your senior course rigor. They also would like to see your first semester senior grades, generally, so don’t slack off.

Get your GPA up. A 3.5 for mich is low. If you can get it up to a 3.6 that would help a lot. A 30 on the ACT will also help you a lot. Even then, admission is iffy.

^Honestly even a 3.6 and a 30 would be a big reach. You’re EC’s aren’t enough to overcome your grade and test issues. It’s just gonna be difficult even with your in-state status. Not saying there isn’t a chance but have a few backup plans.

maizeandblue, what would you say to a 3.5 and a 32 with a more complete, focused EC profile? The schedule rigor was also strongest offered.

Still a low reach. You would of had a better chance three years ago when we weren’t on the common app. Again it’s not like you don’t have a chance but the honest truth is that your GPA is low and your ACT is good but not great. Idk what a “more complete, focused EC profile” even means but ideally you would have some pretty good ones. Give it a shot, I’m just a student I’m not on the admissions committee.
