Hello Everyone!
Will reach directly to the point.
I will be joining De Anza this fall but since there'd be so many people enrolling in the basic Eng and Math classes, wouldn't it be better to join a little late( like in the spring)
I just want some advice and opinion.
Just an idea.

You can also get classes at West Valley and Foothill, ya know…

I would sign up for other GE/pre-major requirements for the Fall if you are not able to get into the English or Math classes. That way you are a bit further up on the ladder for priority registration come Spring. At least at my CC (which is terribly impacted), I have not noticed a drastic difference in trying to get classes Fall vs. Spring semesters.
I also was able to add into an English class my first semester at CC by dropping in the first day to a once a week night class. If you try to add into a class that is not your usual morning or afternoon class, there may not be as many students trying to add. Worth a shot!

Actually I don’t want to start this fall.Wanted to take time off and visit some place.
How bad would that affect me ?
Will I still be able to complete my requirements within 2 years?
I have like 4 APs – scores 4,4,4,5.
I know I’ll have to take more classes and all but is it feasible?
Yes, night classes seems like a good idea!
whadya guys say?

If you’re doing engineering you’re going to have a difficult time trying to transfer in 2 years.

If you want to take a semester off to visit some place or just to chill, go for it! It’s only 1 semester.

Just a couple quick things…

De Anza and Foothill are both on quarters, which means there are Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. This means the schedule is different than most CC’s, and it’ll have different dates and such. You didn’t mention Winter at all, so just making sure you haven’t forgotten it. :P

When I was at Foothill, someone told me that there’s some class you can take which gets you earlier admissions dates… I didn’t pay much attention because I was already leaving by then and it would’ve been expensive with OoS tuition. You might want to ask a counselor about it, and see if that’s true or if De Anza has something like that.

Even if you get waitlisted for classes, that doesn’t mean you’re out. A lot of students waitlist themselves, then keep showing up to class and asking for an entry code or waiting until enough people drop out. So, don’t see “class is full” as a reason not to go.

But it does sound like you want some time off. I wouldn’t suggest waiting until Spring to start, because that would basically be an entire year off, but skipping Fall can’t hurt all that much.

Yes… if I start in winter? will I finish in 2 years?
I will be having some AP credit (4,4,4,5) and take lots of classes?
impossible?

The number of quarters it will take to become transfer ready depends on your target major and campuses, and what AP credit you have.

For majors with relatively few lower division requirements and no long prerequisite sequences, you may just need those and IGETC, so starting a quarter late may not prevent you from reaching transfer readiness in 5 or fewer quarters, assuming that your AP credit is useful.

But if your major has lots of lower division requirements, particularly with long prerequisite sequences or where your AP credit is not applicable, then if you start a quarter late, you may not become transfer-ready until a quarter late, in which case you may have to wait a whole extra year to transfer, since most campuses take applicants only for the fall (though some have school’s choice spring admissions).
