an in-between score and an in-between place

So... I just took the SAT I and got my scores back - 2100. 690 in writing, 710 math and 700 CR. I've asked around and everyone says that since I've hit the 2100 "line" I don't have to retake. I'm really not sure as to how to proceed. On practice tests I always get the highest scores in the writing section (the 750-800 range) so I was really surprised with the 690 and feel that I can do better. The other two scores were expected.

My question is - should I retake or not?

I'm a junior. I have a 4.6 wgpa and I don't know if I should spend more time prepping and retake the test in May this year or just do other things. I don't do a million amazing extracurriculars, but I spend on average 10-12 hrs per week ballroom dancing and have some awards (not sure if this would do me any good for admissions), I volunteer at a hospital and I'm part of a school club. I don't have any specific college in mind yet - except, perhaps, Brown University, but that's more of a dream and not so much a goal... Otherwise I'm not aiming for any Ivies, just "good" schools, whatever that means.

Ack. Any advice would be SUPER helpful!

Thanks!

I have the same question. I got a 620 M, 750 W, and 730 CR–so I hit 2100, and I’m def. not going to go into a math career or anything, but part of me thinks I should retake to balance my score out (this was my first time taking it).

bricheet: totally depends on what schools you are shooting for; Make your list and come back later in the year to figure out whether you should try a retake; although a M/V 1410 is great!

southeast: In your case, with math below a 650, I would definitely study and retake; math is the easiest to study for and go up in…Also, depends on the schools you are applying to, but I would still try to get the math more in line with the other two…

If you think you can raise your writing without dropping other two, go for it. If not, don’t.

But if they DO superscore, should it matter?

I feel like I could have done better on writing as well and that would be my main reason for retaking it. I would like to know from a bunch of different people if retaking for a certain section (having one or more other scores drop) would be a good idea.

dude i am more or less in the same position. i got 760 m 700 cr and 670 wr (11 essay) have great gpa pretty good ec’s i am a junior. I was so suprised with my score. i am retaking this march. Compared with my psat (223) i did pretty bad since most people i know increase on the sat from their psat.
