An interesting predicament...Cornell ED chances

OK, here’s an interesting predicament. I’m applied to Cornell School of engineering as ED. However, I’m so lazy that I haven’t bothered starting the rest of my applications to my other 8 schools. (only wrote a couple of essays) Basically, I’m counting on the ED acceptance. If I don’t get in, well then I’ll have to bust my butt again to get back in admissions process and i don’t want to do that.

So here are my stats. My school is #1 ranked public school in NJ:

SAT I= 760M, 760V, one time
SAT 2= 790 Math 2C, 790 US History, 780 Writing, 770 Chemistry
AP tests= 5-Calculus AB, 5-US History (both junior year)

GPA= 4.53 weighted, 3.9 unweighted

Courses
-as many honors and AP courses as possible with our scheduling method. 2 APs junior year (calc AB and US history)

 • Senior courses are all AP: Calculus BC, Stats, Literature, US Gov, & Biology

Academic Awards

 1. National merit-semifinalist-224
 2. 2004 Young Chemist Award-sponsored by the Chinese American Chemical Society, one of 4 high school winners in tri-state area.
 3. Our school doesn’t give out any specific academic awards…

Extracurriculars

 1. Piano-10 years. Many competitions, festivals, awards every year including high school. New Jersey Music Teacher’s Association’s Honors award, many more smaller competition and festival awards as well.

Clarinet-8 years. Like piano, I’ve won many awards and competitions (mostly at the local or regional level). Principal chair for both our symphonic orchestra and the Youth orchestra of Central Jersey. NJ Regional Wind Ensemble, etc etc etc…

Blah blah blah more music activiites than I care to list…activities involve leadership and responsibility,- already explained that in my application and too lazy to write it here.

Science club, academic decathlon at school…blah blah blah

Volunteering at the Library and Princeton Medical Center, but I don’t have many hours :(

In the summer, I’ did some work for this PhD at UPenn. This is essentially a Stay-at-home/Unpaid b*tch work job where I do menial labor such as compose biological pathways, research, use computer programs, etc…blah blah blah…btw it was all online correspondence…

*Also, my 2 teacher recommendations were extremely good, thank God. My essays are decent, not spectacular.

Bottom line- Will I get in? I really hope I do so I don’t have to do anymore application sh%t anymore. Plus I want to start slacking in school.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't get accepted.

the only reason i can see you not getting in is if your essays were really really crappy or arrogant...i feel a little worse after reading this, i'm applying ED engineering too, we have similar stats, yours are slightly better, my EC's are more engineering and math related though, that might be the only other thing that is hurting you, maybe too much music and they wonder why you're doing engineering, however that might show how well rounded you are, also I stumbled upon the theory that...if an applicant applies for ED and they are clearly good enough to make regular cut, the school might defer them, and take a lesser applicant which would be borderline in RD over the clear cut RD, so if you don't get in early and get deferred, I'd say you're probably in RD or ED, calc AB and not BC could hurt you though, best of luck, and hopefully i'll see you there a year from now, who knows it could turn out that we are roommates

I have had some science/engineering ECs, but they are more minor, so I didn't post them. For me, I tend to focus on my music activities (since I've been spending more time on them).

I'm also taking Calculus BC right now...

Wow...I read your first paragraph and found myself right there. In fact, your profile is almost the same as mine, except you have your music, and I have legacy. If you don't get in, I'll be worried...

you will prob get in, but you seem too lazy... good luck

.- -. -.-- / -- --- .-. . / .. -.. . .- ... ..--..

bumpity bumpity bumpity bump

my god... you have excellent chances I would say.. good luck!
