Alright, so here is the story. I applied to SEAS last year as a junior and was waitlisted (and ultimately rejected). If I were to apply ED again as a senior, would my prior application impact my chances of getting in negatively or positively?

I have continued doing my extracurriculars and such, have been working ~40 hours a week on a political campaign this summer, and can expect better recommendations from my teachers this round. Oh yea, I got 5s on AP Physics C (Mech), Calculus BC, and US History.

My senior year schedule will consist of:
AP Physics C (E&M)
AP Biology
AP European History
AP Statistics
AP Spanish
University math course (multivar calc, linear algebra, or something to that effect)

For those of you wondering, here are my other stats:
SAT I: 800V/760M/760W (2320)
SAT II: 800 Chemistry, 800 Math II, 780 Physics :( --should I take a humanities SAT II?
GPA: ~3.85 unweighted
Class Rank: Top decile (school doesn't do numerical ranks)
School: Public school in Massachusetts that sends a fair amount of students off to Ivy leagues and such every year

Thanks for taking the time to read this; I would really love to attend SEAS at Columbia as it has a slightly more interdisciplinary curriculum rather than solely focusing upon engineering (like MIT, Cornell Engineering, etc).

no u dont need to take a humanities Sat 2. The reason u were rejected last here is because students who apply at under the age of 18 are put at a disadvantage. This is because they'd rather accept 18 year olds since anyone under that age would mean they would be responsible if anything were to happen them.

Anyway I'm pretty sure you'll have an EXCELLENT chance when you apply this year since you're probably 18 or going to be 18 in your senior year.

Just make sure your essay is good.

Good Luck!

no need for humanities sat2, last year's application won't make a difference. If anything it should help because despite being rejected you are still applying meaning you are serious about columbia. Denzera applied as a senior, got rejected, took a year off applied ed to seas the next year and got in. The fact that they waitlisted you as a junior should mean you have good chances.

^are you sure about this? i'm gonna be a senior, and I'm 16 years old, 17 in september.

yes. 100% sure. I've spoken to my Guidence Counselor and other people who about the same topic nahsimshihaeyo.

I think the reason you were rejected last year is that the only real reason for accepting a junior is if he/she has exhausted all the resources of the high school (obviously not the case, as evidenced by the classes you are planning ot take as a senior). You will be a truly excellent candidate this year. Do plan to take some test--SAT II or the AP--in French. You should be able to get some sort of credit/placement out of al those years of study.

Alright, thanks for the input guys
