America is very anti intellectual. It is the only place in the world where the intelligent are not respected and instead, made fun of.

Just sayin.

America is very anti intellectual. It is the only place in the world where the intelligent are not respected and instead, made fun of.

Just sayin.

It depends on the intelligent person's environment.

yup.

it depends if you are in southern cali or idaho...

though i've never been to idaho...it should be fun :)

I would have to agree.

Don't know, never been anywhere else.

That's definitely true for here in upstate New York.

Yes, I'm on the math team, so what?

"dood, u on da math team? dat's stupid" arg, incompetence. Always present and too abundant.

well...it depends on what u do with the intelligence that some ppl would not like or w/e

in south texas being smart is considered "not cool" especially in some of the public schools. I, being from the second stupidest city in the U.S. am used to being called a "nerd". Even someone who passes all his/her classes is considered a nerd.

Yeah it's pretty much the uncool thing to around here.... get good grades. psh you dork. actually a lot people just call me a genius haha. I get a 100 on a test and suddenly I'm a genius.

It depends on your audience. Half my school is hardcore Asian so they love you if you're smart. The other half is hardcore Abercrombie and give off the impression that they disrespect you because they wish they had your brains.

haha, that's a great way to put it theoneo

I'm just a nerd in denial

haha theoneo you just described my high school. no joke.

Sadly the abercrombie outnumbers the asian population at my school (mind you, some asians are a part of the abercrombie) I wear abercrombie and hollister and whatnot, but I just don't have the same mentality, because I obviously don't mind people having brains (I'm on CC).

umm, most of the time when these kids call you a nerd or whatever they really dont mean anything by it. This is America and nobody cares what the hell you do and this isnt the only place ppl are called nerds and whatnot. In Canada it is the same way but once again, like i said most ppl dont care and they arent really looking 2 hurt your feelings or anything.. and remember there is the big diff of being a nerd and acting like a nerd. If you spend all your time talking about how you love morpgs and come to school in star trek(examples but i sure you get thepoint) attire then of course ppl are gonna make fun of you b/c thats a bit weird but if you also happen to be smart it has nothing 2 do with that

Being familiar with both American and Chinese culture since I live in Taiwan, I completely agree with the observation. Here, the notion that somebody is laughed at for being too smart is mind-boggling, to say the least. It doesn't even begin to make sense. The fact that the word "nerd" even exists can further attest to this fact.

you are all nerds

at my school ur actually respected for good grades. chicks dig smart guys. if ur not bragging about ur grades then u should be fine. i live in a rich neighborhood so that might be why we are respected.

ahh, the beauties of private school.
