An odd interview experience

@Consolation : Well, that’s what the interview lady told my friend. He told me that he agreed to participate, and that she did record their interview. He never saw her face, either, just an avatar, I think. But she told him it was for a movie. She could have been lying. I don’t know what else you’d use a videotaped interview for, though. But I guess it’s better to be safe than sorry. My friend gets credit as well for finding all of this out, but I would have been more comfortable if he just disagreed and didn’t do the interview.

The idea of someone trying videotape me without telling me gives me the willies.

Well, I agree that if she actually said she was recording it for a movie, that is totally weird and unacceptable. An interviewee should not be put in the position of feeling pressured to participate in something like that.

Contacting the admissions office and asking for another interviewer based on the fact that she apparently wanted to record interviews for a movie she was making is not a bad idea. They need to know that she is doing this–they will NOT be happy!–and you don’t want to give the impression that you don’t care about the interview.

I would do it by email, and be sure to make it very simple and straightforward. Don’t get into an explanation of how you felt or what you surmised. Just say that your friend informed you of this, and you preferred not to participate. They will understand.

@Consolation : Yeah, I think I will. Thanks.

@Zzwicker…If you feel comfortable sharing, I’d be really interested in knowing how Admissions responded…

@JoBenny : Oh, I forgot to post about it with all the other stuff that’s been going on with my family. I did call the Admissions office, and the lady on the phone mentioned that they’d take care of it…I guess I’d feel skittish if I posted any details, but unless the interviewer agrees to stop her schemes, she won’t be offered any more interviews. Or something like that. But it’s taken care of, at the very least.

No specifics necessary…you should feel good about calling and maybe saving another kid from being put in an awkward position!
