an okay page 217 or none?

My page 217 wasn't as good as my other essays. I wanted to write about a little incident that happened when I was little. But I also wanted to write something that takes place in the future. I wrote about myself a few years later doing something and having a flashback to my past. It's not about my future career or dream , but just something ordinary.

Plus I was trying to experiment with that whole future-flashback idea and I don't know if it turned out to seem as creative as I thought it would be. Now I'm a bit regretting that I even turned it in.

Since Penn even mentioned that pg 217 is "truly" optional, will an okay-level optional essay hurt my chances in any way? I just was trying to demonstrate more interest and dedication by writing one..

I am not sure. If it like an interview, which is only optional, then it can only hurt. However, I think you should summit, because showing that you care enough to attempt is better than not doing it at all.

Don’t sweat it. I’m sure it’s great. I don’t agree that it can hurt you, unless you come off like a psycho or something. What you did sounds creative and original. I give you kudos for even trying.
Good luck and R-E-L-A-X.

I think as long as it covers something about yourself (whether it be interests, personality, a personal experience, or other) you should be fine as long as it’s written well. i.e. no horridly bad grammar, good wording, and other factors demonstrating that you have good writing style. I think from what you’ve said about your essay, it seems totally fine.

Some people don’t actually take the Pg217 that seriously, and only write a humorous sentence or two for it. Some of those people have still gotten in Penn. But personally I suggest you don’t do that unless you’re confident your other essays were decent.
