I cant fathom the reason why you are subjecting so many people to this emotional distress. There is no excuse for same! You should have anticipated the increase in applications. You also should have worked overtime to complete you duties in a timely fashion.

You are incapable of communicating the current situation with the applicants leaving everyone to scurry around like inmates on death row waiting for a call from the governor. How about sending an email to the remaining applications telling us what is going on?

You took UMichigan as a safe list;

You are not good enough, and YOU deserve waiting for over 6 months;

You are rejected and you have a sour-grape psyc issue. Yes, I know you are rejected simply because you are complaining now.

UMichigan did everything right. If you keep complaing, you will be blocked from the list.

^ there are a ton of people who don’t fit in any of those categories who are still waiting.

i applied before the regular decision deadline, and havent heard a single word from michigan thus far. my SAT/ACT are above the 75th percentile compared to those in the class of 2014 and i am in the top 10% of my class. i also know another person from my school who has a 34 ACT and 4.0, as well as a ton of extracurriculars, who also has not heard.

even if i am accepted, i am going elsewhere. another school can have my 50k a year LOL, definitely not going to waste money on a school that is filled with incompetent people and can’t even give their prospective students a week before the may 1st deadline to register. is the admissions staff run by mentally handicapped children?

so, uh, I’d like to start off by saying thank you for not coming to umich 2fast4you. You sound like a dick and umich likes to keep their “dick” population low.

Also, every *ing day there is a thread about someone else complaining. Jesus Christ you guys, this ins’t like your HS. You aren’t the “special” one. There are thousands like you that have applied like you and many that are better than you. Being in the top 10% of your class doesn’t mean jack *.

What do you expect? A personal update every week from umich about where you stand?

Please, just stop complaining. It was funny at first, now its just getting old.

No problem. take your 50k and go somewhere else. I’m sure Michigan can find another to take your place gladly. Don’t act like your money alone will send UMich into debt if you don’t attend… there are multitudes and multitudes of people who are ok with waiting for a spot.

So you got personal updates on your application status from all your other schools? You must be very special. I know a girl who applied to three of the Ivies in December. All she got was a decision letter from each school on March 31. She also applied to six of the UC’s in November. All she got was a decision letter from each in March. She didn’t get any personal updates along the way. Guess she is not as special as you.

Really? You should be ashamed of yourself for that comment. Do the state and the university a favor and go elsewhere as you are not the type of student they need.

Wow - most (I thought all?) schools give decisions by April 1st. I’ll bet it is hard to not hear a peep by April 15th. I’d probably just move on to considering my other acceptances as well.

The only people that I think have a right to complain are those who applied before the Early Action deadline back in September or October, yet still haven’t gotten a decision either way. I think it’s ridiculous that the people in the admissions office can’t give final decisions by April 1st.

Some schools still accept after April 20. If accepted after 4/20 your offer of admission will most likely expire 10 days after the date on your acceptance letter.

Also, to the OP, you should really learn to proofread before submitting. The correction you made isn’t the only mistake I see.

I am one of the people who applied before the EA deadline.

I was deferred EA. I am in my school’s top 10%, in the 99+ percentile for SAT scores (above the 90% mark for Mich), spent many hours pouring over my essays, and have good EAs. I visited campus and liked the school. I consider Michigan a match/reach for me.

But everyone seems to be missing the point – that students just need to know, and holding out this long is poor planning and just cruel to the students. I understand the Admissions Office is overwhelmed – but they should have prepared for that. Every other college I have applied to has responded already, but Michigan has not. Although they said “sometime in mid April,” it’s April 16th. If UCLA, who received so many more apps than Mich, can respond in a timely and prompt manner…why can’t Mich, exactly? I need to hear back from Mich so I can make a decision before the May 1 deadline. That’s it. Would I have liked to know sooner? Yes. Do I think they did a poor job this year? Yes. Will it make me not want to attend? Probably not, but I need to know before the deadline so I don’t drop a deposit on a different school.

I have sympathy for those who weren’t accepted yet. I was accepted EA and attending this fall. If Michigan said everyone would hear by the 15th, then everyone has the right to complain. I would be angry if I was in your position. I guess admissions didn’t realize how many applications they were going to receive and how limited they are too accept people. They really need to fix this up for next year. Good luck to all

My son applied EA, was deferred and was accepted, finally. However as an out-of-state student he received aid of $1300, while our EFC was $17K! So our dollars will be going elsewhere, and I hear the governor of MI is the commencement speaker at UMich/Ann Arbor and students are protesting the budget cuts he’s made. Best to move on to a better funded school.

Citadel has not sent me any updates on my resume drop from sophomore year for the intern position for more than 2 years now…welcome to the real world. You are not entitled to jack…
but but but but but it’ssss so nooot not not not fairrr :(((( boo freaking hoo

bearcats, that was unnecessary and immature. If someone tells you you will hear back by a certain time and then doesn’t back to you within that time, it’s rude and you have a right to complain. I agree – no one here is entitled, and Mich should never be a safety and these boards should be cleaned up, but being patronizing and condescending in such a trollish manner won’t help.

Really? The university CLEARLY says on the website that EAs who applied will get a decision by December 23rd (Accept, Deny, DEFER). People who are deferred will receive a decision by mid-April. Mid-April is not strictly April 15th as you are trying to say. The school would have said “by April 15th” if that’s what they meant. As far as I am concerned, mid-April spans from April 10th to April 20th give or take. Why do you think you are entitled to receive anything before then? You accepted those terms when you applied.
