its pretty cool...

Wow, the UCSD preview video is frighteningly accurate.

"Unorthodoxal" is a word?

pretty cool

lol my bad...in my native language it's pronounced with an "L"
I ment unorthodox.

ok, I finally watched the little video clips about UCLA, UCSD, UCB, and Stanford....ummm.........is the video clip correct about UCB because it seems like it isn't my kind of school lol......I really like the description of UCLA and yeah....I just am not fond of being at a school full of weird, but smart, people... I guess I'd rather be with beautiful/"hot" and smart people (UCLA?) haha...

actually, I would REALLY like to know if the clips about UCLA and UCB are true because I am guessing that is where my decision of where I am going to transfer is going to end up..

I have also never been to any of these campuses...so I really have no clue what they are like and am hoping that these are perfectly fine sources...

They are pretty accurate. Berkeley was the last school (#300) in a list of 300 on Playboy's list of colleges with sexiest girls, hah. The videos do kind of represent stereotypes though. There are plenty of people you probably wouldn't consider weird at Berkeley and plenty of people you would consider weird at UCLA. (That's probably obvious.)

Would you mind expanding upon the flaws that the video clips present? I would like more information about the campuses since I have never been there...

That statistic is very scary for me lol...yeah, I am beginning to re-think my motive for wanting to attend UCB...I would probably go there for the academic environment, type of area/nature, academics, research....all based on academics, I guess....hah...

I wouldn't say the video presented "flaws." I suggest you visit both campuses before making a decision.

For me, the Playboy statistic doesn't matter. I'm not really a big fan of the stereotypical blonde girls Playboy would base a good rating on anyway. And I am much more concerned with the academic environment than how the girls look.

haha what was UCLA's rank for girls?

Xcron plz take those clips with a grain of salt. As informative as they are they present the school only from a very narrow point of view and don't reflect the views of the entire student body. I think the interviewers don't really put an effort to make sure all the diffrent social groups are represented.

NJCC, anyone can realize that the video can't reflect "the entire student body." But the (preview) videos actually do a great job (especially for UCSD) of presenting a quick informative snippet. They kind of reflect the impression a person would gain from a quick tour of a campus--it isn't enough to come to well-informed conclusion, but it's good material to add to all the other info we learn about the campuses.

I wonder why UCSD is so lacking in social life? It was the only school (from the ones I saw) that students specifically state that there's almost no social scene.

Wow, thanks NJCCstudent. That's a ton of great info!!!

NJCC-I think it was actually quite clear from the video. The emphasis of the school doesn't yield the most social students. As the video mentioned you can always sneak into SDSU parties though, hah; it was right on the ball with that.

So, so wrong! Berkeley's was laughable. Its as if they didn't even go and do research, just made a little movie about what the nation thinks of Berkeley. Piercings and tattoos and briliant weirdos? Uh, not so much. Berkeley is full of Asian engineers wearing polo shirts and tan pants. Not exactly rebels. Also, they make Stanford out to be super difficult when it is in fact notoriously easy. They have advisors to walk them through everything and if they are doing bad in a class they can drop it as late as the week of the finals. I'm not saying these are bad things, just that the videos weren't accurate.

I believe the Berkeley video mentioned the preponderance of asian students; perhaps I am mistaken. It seems though that you are simply pointing out what is already obvious. Every campus has different groups; a short preview video cannot present a comprehensive picture of an enormous, diverse university. With that said, I think the videos are worthy to add to a prospective student's information portfolio.

When it comes to the campus I am most familiar with (UCSD) none of the information was invalid (except for the freshman admit stats; I can't vouch for those), and I can say for a fact that it presented a lot of info a prospective student might not know, but should.

And since the videos were filmed on the respective campuses, I wouldn't say it presented the "national view" of a given campus. It just might have focused on one aspect of a campus as opposed to another because of the limits of that kind of video.

I'm not saying the videos are bad, I'm saying they are trying too hard to make each campus it own wild and wacky, individual place. For instance, they harped on how sunny and warn and totally California Stanford is, when it has basically the same climate as everywhere else in the bay area. I have to also comment on the "pointing out what is obvoious." Do you really think that everyone in the country knows that Berkeley is 50 percent Asian? Or that there are very few wierdos that go to school here? If so, I'll concede that I was wrong, but I have a feeling that the way this video portrays us (wild, super-smart artists) is in fact the way most of the country views Berkeley, which is simply not the way it is in my view.

What I meant by pointing out the obvious is that it should be obvious to everyone that those little preview videos don't present a comprehensive picture.

A lot of the country still believes students at Berkeley are liberal, and they're right according to the latest poll numbers. Also, campus demographics are widely available, and any prospective student should look at them if they consider it important.

ahh......well..........as long as UCB is not the land of strange, intelligent people...I will be rather content. Hopefully there are only a few of those...smart people with tattoos and piercings and all that stuff...

I realize that the Playboy statistic should not matter all that much...but I would like to go to a school where there are many beautiful genius girls lol ... hopefully UCLA stands up true to this idea..
