An update on the "Party situation" Ok, its long

earlier I had posted a thread discussing a party I attended and whether I should continue attending parties or not. Here is an update, sorry for the length.

tonight for the first time I went "Ice blocking" which involves using blocks of ice as sleds and rolling down hills. It was me and 5 other girls . It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much fun. As we were driving back we decided to go to this one parking lot which has a absolutely STUNNING view ( our town is on the side of a mountain) of the major city nearby and the ocean.
You'll remember that I had an earlier thread discussing advice on parties and so I thought that this night would be more "wholesome" but I was wrong.

So anyway, we were there just chillin when low and behold I see a convoy of drunken people approaching. I found out that these were people from my hs. So anyway, these people are obviously imbibing and then getting "touchy feely" and "sucking face"(amongst other things). So in such a situation I wave hello to the people I know and get back to my group. We talk for a while and then decide to catch up on our convo later. I find that girls are so helpful in helping me navigate the unknowns that I have regarding the opposite sex.

Meanwhile, as we are leaving we see a group of these people headed over to someone's house. Apparently, the parking lot wasnt suitable for their "needs" lol. I had a fun night and I just felt I had to share. Senior year I've been exploring a lot of stuff which was previously unknown to me.

On the prom thread there was a parent who discussed how there were people at the prom giving bj's under the table during the prom. Now I can see how that would happen. I guess all these years I was just oblivious. Oh and another thing I found out was where all the smokers hang out. They hang out right across the street. In full view of the office and the principal. I guess the two sides have agreed to a detente and as long as the smoking isnt on school property, the school doesnt care.

What I really enjoy about senior year is all the people I've been able to meet. I have spread my network and have been able to enjoy the company of people that I usually wouldnt hang out with. Its been a real life lesson and a lesson in humanity :D

I'm glad you were oblivious. It can be a good way to be!

My son, OTOH, usually knows about what's going on and chooses the same path you choose. Prom was last weekend, and he had a terrific experience because of his good choices. About two hours into the alcohol- and drug-free after-prom parties he chose to attend, he heard about the demise of the big alcohol party everyone knew about. It seems a fight had broken out an hour and a half in, the police were called, and the evening was over for those who chose that path. Our son's night went on until four AM!

Just as when he was ten and his self-discipline about wearing a bike helmet saved him from brain damage--maybe death-- if not three layers of stitches in his forehead, our faith in him was given a huge boost. You sound like a person similar to our son--one whose parents will be able to let go to college without fear for your safety. That's a huge gift to them!
