An urgent and important question!

I've applied to a number of colleges for admission in Fall '10. Would it be possible for me to defer my application/s to be considered for Spring/January '11 entry?

If deferring the application/s isn't possible, can I defer more than one admission decision/acceptance to Spring '11 and later pick the best one?

To make it more clear- Is it possible to defer the application (not admission) before receiving an admission decision?

If I choose to defer the admission (not the application) , can I defer more than one offer?

Of course you can defer. Let them know that as soon as you’re certain. Some colleges may make you formally withdraw and then re-apply – it depends.

If you’re accepted by multiple schools, your choosing to defer multiple offers would be tantamount to accepting multiple schools’ open spaces: unethical and against all rules. Expect sharp punishment if caught.

If I let them know that I intend to defer (the application,i.e., before receiving an admission decision) and I choose to re-take the SAT, can I submit the new scores? Also, would schools that do not normally have Spring admission slots allow me to defer?

Thank God you clarified the whole thing about deferring multiple offers!

Call the schools and ask them directly.

If deferring the application/s isn’t possible, can I defer more than one admission decision/acceptance to Spring '11 and later pick the best one?
NO, all admissions decisions must be made by May 1
If I choose to defer the admission (not the application) , can I defer more than one offer?
again, NO
Also, would schools that do not normally have Spring admission slots allow me to defer?
NO.
why would you think they would create a spot for you when they don’t let other students start college in the Spring?

Why are you trying to defer your applications? You either withdraw them and start all over again next year, or you let them ride, and see what happens.

Okay, I’ll tell you why I intend to defer. I shall be applying to a a very good school (as a non-traditional student) that has a deadline in May/June (the decisions will be out in June/July). Just for this school, I plan to re-take the SAT on 1st May. The only problem is the fact that the other schools I’ve applied to require me to let them know my decision by 1st May.

If I accept an offer from one of the schools that have a May 1 reply deadline, can I cancel it later, if I am granted admission to the school that sends out the decisions in July?

If I accept an offer from one of the schools that have a May 1 reply deadline, can I cancel it later, if I am granted admission to the school that sends out the decisions in July?
Yes. Kids do this when they are waitlisted at one college and accepted at another college. They say “yes” on may 1 to college A, and hope to clear the wait list at college B, which sometimes doesn’t happen at all or can happen as late as late in the summer. Then they let college A know they were accepted at their wait listed college B. It’s called “Summer Melt”, and it happens to all colleges. What you do need to do, is send in a deposit and your housing application[ if this applies] by May 1, in order to secure a spot at the college that is your back up, just in case you don’t get into the other college. you WILL lose your deposit if you withdraw your acceptance, but that is the price you have to pay in order to be sure you will be going to college in the Fall.

Thanks a ton  !

no prob. good luck!
