<p>In all fairness, my blurb is more optimistic. I know an adcom is only trying to vouch for you, so I try to only write the positives. Nonetheless, I only read a few essays a day and they read hundreds - I doubt their optimism is as high as mine.</p>
<p>I found An0maly’s advice pretty helpful, it’s concise and really helped me cut down my essay length.</p>
<p>I found some people sending massive essays [700, 800, 1000, etc]. In general, the common app main essay should be around 500, and I think 550 is pushing it. If you are way over, you are going to have to trim it down. This is a standard PM I have sent to several people, so if you’re going to send me a massive essay, do this first:</p>

<p>Honestly guys, I didn’t even notice the word count part until I realized how slow some essays were. If your count was a serious problem I would have told you about it.</p>
<p>My original short essay (150 words or less) had some serious problems that probably would not have been corrected if An0maly had not pointed them out to me. He told me exactly what needed fixing and even great examples of how to fix it. Thanks for an excellent review and critique!</p>
