Analysis of Yann Martel's "Life of Pi"

I have a few questions about “Life of Pi” with which I need help. These questions are kind of generic for the books that we have to read, but they still must be answered for all the books we’ve read. Obviously, “Life of Pi” is one I chose. I read the book, I assure you, but I am one of the worst analyzers of literature, especially when these questions seem to have little relevance to a boy stranded at sea with a tiger. I would really appreciate input from people who read (and grasped the ulterior meanings of) the book.

How is Pi a product of his culture. What is unqiue about him and his relationships with other people that relates to his culture? (Pi’s alone, besides Richard Parker, for most of the book…)

What seems to be the definition of heroism according to Indian culture, and do any characters fit this profile?

What is the role of religion? (I can answer this pretty well, but I’d like to see if I missed any particular points.)

What is the role of family?

Many thanks to those who try to help!

I read this book like three years ago, so I don't remember the details enough to help you out.

But I just have to say... it's a great book. :D

I have the same problem as theoneo, I read this when it first came out. I must say though a really really fun and relaxing read. Question 2 requires you to know about Indian culture, so your gonna have to look into that one. Question 4 isn't bad, I'm not sure if Im right but the role of the family clearly has played a large role in Pi's life and after he is stranded on the raft and lost his whole family he is alone. For the first time. This experiance is new to him but he soon forms a bond with Richard Parker to sub in for his family. But family and companiship is a major part of this book.

That book was the weirdest book I ever read. Sorry can't help you.

I agree, it was weird and not entirely to my liking. Thanks for the help so far.
