I apologize for have apparently taken your post the wrong way, but your initial post sounds more like a rant to me than a service to the community as you’re suggesting. But I digress.
I think most people are aware that a combination of high GPA and major coursework completed is important, so to compromise one for the other is a gamble that you should’ve been aware of. ASSIST.org clearly states at the top of the articulation agreement what the school’s looking for.
How are you determining what’s “on-paper?” You can’t see other people’s full application (which, I’ll add, is “on-paper”), you’re just going off of what little bit of information people have told you about their profile (i.e. their GPA). Nevertheless it’s still very clearly listed on each respective’s schools admission pages what kinds of things they’re looking for in applicants, so it’s hardly a mystery in my opinion (not to mention resources like this site where you can pretty much find out anything).

Anyway, if you’re legitimately happy with UCSD, then congrats to you. Don’t let the fact that UCLA’s “better known” take anything away from what you’ve already accomplished - UCSD is slowly making its way to the top of the UCs (which it already is) and already surpasses UCLA in certain fields. Bragging rights mean nothing to the well-informed who are very much aware of how prestigious UCSD is.
