Analysis

I understand that most admitted students at CMU take a math placement exam to determine which math class they would be qualified to take. I was wondering what would be the requirements to take Analysis I & II freshman year. Would one just have to score extremely well on the placement exam?

Thanks

Hello,

I checked the prerequisites for Analysis I.. and there arent any.. I am not sure if CMU has an Analysis II.. but there is an advanced topics analysis course. Most students who score well on the placement exam take Calc in 3-d or Matrix Algebra with AP Credit.. if you have no credit, but still score well, you take the "Integration, Differentiation, and Approximation" course. Finally, if you do moderately well, you are placed into "Differential and Integral Calculus." I hope this clarifies any misconceptions: I do not know any freshmen taking Analysis I.
There are several factors considered though when they choose what math class you will take.
