Analytical Writing Placement Exam

I'm an OOC student who's going to be attending Cal starting this fall, and I'm a bit confused about the AWPE. Apparently there's an exam for international students once the semester starts, but the website only has the spring exam date for in-state students... Does anybody have any idea when the fall AWPE's going to be, and how/when to register?

Another question: Since I'm going to find out the results of the exam well into the semester if I take it in August, what should I do about my R&C courses? Should I register for the first semester portion of it at CalSO assuming I'll pass, or should I wait until I get the results and take whatever R&C course I need during the spring semester? I'm pretty confident about my writing skills so I doubt I'll fail the placement exam, but I'm scared I'll be at a disadvantage if I put off my R&C courses first semester. Any advice?

Your academic advisor should be able to answer these questions when you attend CalSO.

Check on [Entry Level Writing Requirement](<a href=“Entry Level Writing Requirement | University of California”>Entry Level Writing Requirement | University of California) to see if you have already passed the Entry Level Writing Requirement though SAT Reasoning Writing, ACT English Writing, AP English, or IB English. If not, you need to take the Analytical Writing Placement Exam to see if you pass the Entry Level Writing Requirement.

If you do not fulfill the Entry Level Writing Requirement, you are expected to enroll in [College Writing R1A](http://writing.berkeley.edu/newsite/faqscwr1a.htm), which fulfills both the Entry Level Writing Requirement and Reading and Composition A. You can then follow it with a Reading and Composition B course.
