Analytical Writing Placement Exam ?!?!

I just got an email from the University of California saying I have to go to a nearby high school and take this test on May 14th. Im taking the AP English Lit test on May 5th and am pretty sure ill pass with at least a 3. Does anyone know if I still have to take this exam anyways, it costs $65, and im reluctant to pay if i dont REALLY need it. Any info about it helps, thanks…

Here most of the email:

Dear Candidate:

All undergraduates entering the University of California must satisfy the Entry Level Writing Requirement – must, that is, demonstrate their ability to write effective essays. University records show that you have not already satisfied the Entry Level Writing Requirement with a score of 680 or better on the College Board SAT II Writing Test or a score of 3, 4, or 5 on either Advanced Placement (AP) English Examination. If you have received a letter of admission from the University of California and are planning to attend, you must take the Universitywide Analytical Writing Placement Examination. To do so, you must

I think you still have to take it, it says:
"Those students from California high schools who have not satisfied the requirement by April 1, 2005, must take the Analytical Writing Placement Examination"

Three ways toget out of it:

680 SATII writing
3,4,5 on a ENG AP Test
a passing grade in a college Eng class

YOu must already complete at least one of these in order to not take it.

I completely read write past that, but anyways thanks for the replies.
