Analytical Writing Placement Exam

Anyone receive this email? I got it, but when i opened it, it didn't say anything :P

anyone else?

ya i got the e-mail and it says:

"Dear Candidate:

All undergraduates entering the University of California must satisfy the Entry Level Writing Requirement – that is, they must demonstrate their ability to write effective essays. University records show that you have not already satisfied the Entry Level Writing Requirement with a score of 680 or more on the College Board SAT Reasoning Test (Writing section); score of 30 or greater on the ACT Combined English/Writing test; a score of 3, 4, or 5 on either Advanced Placement (AP) English Examination; a score of 5 or above on the International Baccalaureate Higher Level English A exam; or a grade of C or higher in an acceptable college course in English composition. If you have received a letter of admission from the University of California and are planning to attend, you must take the Universitywide Analytical Writing Placement Examination (AWPE). To do so, you must

so if i didn’t get an email i don’t have to go?

I got the email too but I passed English 1A at JC last semester. Do I still hv to take the test?

Hmm, I didn’t get the email either. But I passed AP Eng L & C with a 4 so I’m assuming I’m exempt…?

I didn’t get the email either but I did get a 30 on the ACT Combined English/Writing test.

If I passed the Ap Language and Composition test do I have to take it?

it’s puzzling to think that one can pass the AP Lit exam yet not understand the [plain!] English in that email …

Same for me, high ACT score already reported to them but not recognized by their system. Also noticed that apparently our health insurance waiver forms were due March 20th !!! I’d say given the big admit day email fiasco, they are having some technical issues in the admissions office.

Ugh, my email is still blank… I can’t get it to display the information I need to take the exam :(.

incoming freshmen have different deadlines than that of continuing students.
for us, the health insurance waiver deadline was march 20th. i believe yours is in late august or september.

Email won’t open for me in Yahoo, but it works for my ipod…

strongbadfan, I knew it’s something along those lines but they mistakenly put that deadline in the incoming admitted students’ checklist. My point is simply that glitches will happen and they will all be straightened out in plenty of time so not to panic so much over them.

oh hah. i thought you were actually worried, oops. i misread what you wrote.

It is most probable that the ones who did not receive the email are exempt. Why? B/c it states in the email for the ones who are NOT exempt, that the students who either got 680 or higher in SAT Writing, or ACT score of something… or passed one of the AP Lit./Lang. tests are exempt. (there are more exemptions, but cannot remember at the moment)

Does anyone know when we’re supposed to take the Math Placement Exam?

I’m quite sure I’m not exempt from that one, haha.

[Testing and Evaluation Office](http://mathtesting.ucsd.edu/placement.shtml)

^ It doesn’t say when though…

So I guess I’m exempt since I passed the Calculus AB exam…?

if people are having trouble to display the email, try using Internet Explorer. It worked for me.

For some reason, it turns out blank in Firefox.

To all the people who got the email an dare not able to see it,

open it in safari!

wow…that writing placement test really got me worrying since it said SAT II writing on the website…i got confused b/c then i thought there was ANOTHER writing SAT. phew.do u have to submit your SIR in order to get those emails?
