Anyone else enjoying waiting as much as I am? I, for one, am loving it-- checking the mail 8 times a day, browsing the website with the farfetched hope that somehow there's a list of the scholarship winners hidden if only you have the computer hacking skills to find it (I don't).... it's great. AUGH! Man, these people will break you down with the whole waiting thing. Yep, anyway, I'm done. Hope y'all are having a good day. :-)

PS- It's been... what?... maybe four days? I am SO pathetic
~*~

After waiting for a month to hear good news from Emory only to be let down, and waiting a few weeks to see if I got a "likely letter" from Duke and finding my mailbox devoid of such a missive each and every day, I've pretty much given up hoping for good news.

If anything, that is more pathetic than wanting to hear.

Relax, y'all, focus on enjoying the last few months of your senior year and your life as you know it. News will come, probably later rather than sooner, but it will arrive ;).

So yeah, I don't have any regrets of how the interviews went or anything I else I may or may not have done on the trip, even pulling out my TI-83 during the chemistry interview and proclaiming it as my lifesaver to two dumbfounded professors with cool ties. Basically the way I feel is that they saw me for the way I am, and if they like it, cool, and if they don't, then that's cool as well.

And besides, and this applies to all five of us (and maybe lurkers to this board as well) who went - we all have options. We all are going to get a college education. So this isn't a a life-or-death-only-chance-at-getting-into-college-ohmigod! thing...so relax!

puts W&L, Rice, and all other schools firmly out of mind

blinks You brought your TI-83 to the scholarship competition? I gave mine away to my sister at the beginning of they year, haven't needed anything past a scientific in calc this year, we learn how to do everything the TI-83 does in our heads, although we are only lowly AB.

Anyway, this just blows the mind of this liberal arts student.

I actually am not so impatient about the scholarship letter. Everyone I met at the competition was very friendly and polite so if I don't get the scholarship, I know at least that it went to good people (who I'll probably then get mad at if they don't go). I'm just having trouble trying to survive another 65 days of high school (that's school days here in NY) after getting a taste of college life.

oh, btw emilia, i tried to see if i could upload stuff from my iPod onto my computer and all i could figure out how to do was my notes, calendar, and contacts - no songs. so, unless i'm just severely technologically handicapped (which is probably the case :)) i don't think you can upload songs. to be sure, though, i would check online to see if anyone knows how.

dima, i agree with you wholeheartedly about everyone seeming so nice and just all around awesome. now i see where the adcoms are coming from when they say that they really couldn't decide on their own who to pick and who not to pick. regardless, Charlie told me that they meet tomorrow to start deliberating foreboding music...

PS - just noticed that we use --- a lot

That's cause we're very expressive people and like to show it ;)

btw, the Honor Scholarship competition cost me 30 points on a project (I got a 65 instead of a probable 95) and a hat so I want at least some sort of monetary compensation!!!

LOL, I concur--- everyone I met was so sweet and genuinely nice, both honor scholars and students at W&L. Chris, was Charlie on your interview board for students? I had a guy named Charlie who was really nice, but I wasn't sure if it's the same guy. Sorry to hear about Duke and Emory, but on the plus side there's still W&L, and they seem to really love you. :-) As far as the waiting goes, I'm just really bad at waiting. For anything-- coffee (ok, bad example. Coffee is life or death), at the bank, in the grocery store, etc. And Emilia, I don't think I would even know how to use that calculator-- it's pathetic, but me and my scientific bonded in trig, and it's been with me all the way through BC. I'm a very incompetent technology person. Ok, off to do homework. Have a good night, y'all!

Computer geek to the rescue! You CAN upload songs... IM me at "Ima Homo sapiens" anytime and I'll tell you how. Hope you guys had a great time; I'll see some of you in September for sure. Good luck with getting the scholarships!

PS- As for calculators, I never had a graphing one until this year. I got a TI-89 Titanium, which is amazing once you take the time to learn all the features. The only problem is, I'm not allowed to use it in my Advanced Math class (not taking calc because Latin fills up that period... damnit). And I actually did worse on the SAT's with the TI-89 than I did a year ago with my regular old scientific calc.

And a couple asterisks for sh!ts & giggles!

I called admissions the other day because I had a random question about transferring credits, and the person I talked to told me they're mailing the letters March 24th, so for you lucky (but cold) dogs on the east coast, you'll probably hear before April 1. Hope everyone is enjoying the last few official days of winter-- seriously, y'all, Texas winters rock. It's 87 degrees.... :-D

Yay, thanks for finding that out, Tegan :D!

Um, does anyone think that the admissions office will be willing to tell me if I won a scholarship after March 24th if I call them on the phone? I'm leaving on a family trip on Saturday the 26th (early in the morning, before the mail comes) and won't be able to check the snail mail for like a week after that :(. It's especially pressing because we're going to southern West Virginia to visit family, and my parents have offered to take me to visit W&L again (only like a two hour drive), but I want to know about the scholarships before I decide to visit the campus one more time....

I always go crazy on March 21st because its the end of winter but its still so cold in New York that it doesn't make a difference. My official first day of Spring is the first day I can step out of my house without my winter jacket.

Emilia, you can try but in my experience, colleges don't give out that info over the phone.

Yeah, I never said not to try, go right on.

I'm just saying that in my experience, for varying reasons, colleges don't give out that info over the phone. The best experience my friends have had is that they'll do it over the phone two weeks after they mail it out but in some cases (U Chicago to be specific), it could be almost two weeks later, they screwed up the address and they still resend it instead of telling you.

This time next week... we still won't know. But oh well, it's getting closer, at least. Emilia, I think it's worth a shot calling, and maybe when you do, ask to speak with the admissions officer you interviewed with, since he/she will know who you are and might be more willing to let something slip. :-) The thing I most noticed about the people at W&L is that they're as excited to give these scholarships as we are to (hopefully) get them, so I think it's worth trying. The worst they can say is wait.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions, y'all :). I'll definitely try calling next Thursday and explaining the situation; we'll see where it goes from here.

I'm sure they'll be some very happy CCers around here in 8-10 days. :D
