And in local news....

a teen caused major traffic blockups when she had a parade down Peachtree celebrating her college acceptance. The MIT fight song (wait does MIT have one?) could be heard for miles as she rode through downtown.

What is the craziest thing someone (or you) would do if accepted to MIT?

Disclaimer: shawtysqrpants does not endorse creating parades or any kind of distraction. Creating a parade although would make you cool, but probably land you in jail.

The engineer's drinking song ("We are the engineers") is the closest MIT has to a fight song. At least the MIT Marching band does play it at football games, but it is not a traditional fight song.

There are many, many verses, and most of the best of them are unprintable.

^ Unprintable, but funny. :D

Sounds like an awesome song. Nothing like obscenities to get the team riled up.

I know when my friend found out she got into UGA by computer in the office, and when she saw she was accepted she started screaming and yelling. The counselors and administrators were forced to ask her to leave the office.I hope to be that happy soon

My chem teacher was on the MIT crew team and she taught me what she said was the fight song...the "e to the u du dx, e to the x dx" thingajigger... or maybe that was just a rowing thing. Heh.

no, that's all MIT.

My favourite of the semi-printable verses:

My brother paid for heroin with every cent my mother stole,
My sister used to walk the streets, but now she's on parole,
My uncle fondles little girls; my father raped a steer,
But they won't even talk to me, FOR I'M AN ENGINEER

[Chorus]

^haha lmao...does anyone have a link to the whole thing?

Yes!
http://web.mit.edu/choral/www/repertoire/engineers.htm
I love it.

There are of course many more verses than these, and others are written all of the time. Most of the off colour ones are not commonly sung publicly, though I do remember one "Concert in Bad Taste" when a whole auditorium resonated to the verse that begins "Fornication..."

dally, that's a cheer rather than a fight song.

Ah, you're right! Wow, that's a no-brainer - a song usually has a tune, doesn't it?

Well, and, I mean, that's a cheer that teams at MIT do. So it is an MIT thing, just not an MIT song.

The cheerleading squad did that cheer right before we went on the mat for a competition a few years ago... the cheerleaders from other schools looked puzzled. Possibly they did not know many of the terms in the cheer. :)

lol derivative??? That means small right? Totally paid attention in lit

the MIT fight song is:

e to the u du dx!
e to the x dx!
Cosine! Secant! Tangent! Sine!
3 point 1 4 1 5 9!
Integral, radical, m dv
Slipstick, slide rule, MIT!

when i got in, i stopped breathing for about a minute and couldn’t talk… then i was ridiculously happy for the next few weeks, which was saying something considering I had finals and AP exams
