AND...PSP Semifinalist!

Just received an email.

It's a good day!!

Congrats! Hoping our son gets one later today. What are your stats?

My daughter got an e-mail around 1 o’clock CST. The Buzzport doesn’t show the status. She got as a semifinalist.

Hers is 2140 SAT, 32 composite ACT, 3.81 UW GPA, whatelse??

Sorry…in Buzzport there is no personal announcement. But check the appln details towards the bottom. There it shows accepted.

congrats to the PSP semifinalist!!

i envy all of you, just sayin :)

Is there any chance they haven’t sent all of them yet? :/

^ i really hope so!!

congrats to you guys!
im still waiting for an email. i really hope i get one!! >_<
… 3.9 UW and 35 act and good ECs . i thought i had a good shot…

Me too, 2380, 3.9, some leadership positions and good ECs …hmmm

^ Hmmmmmm. Methinks the essay might have something to do with this…

My essay? I thought it was good, and I had many people that I trust read it…so no email by now = no PSP? :/

I don’t know anything about your essay but all of your other stats look great, as do those of the other people that have posted here, so that was the only thing left. If you’re essay was good, and I don’t have a reason to doubt that it was, then I’m completely clueless. Also, 8(

The site says that all PSP emails would have been sent out by 5pm est.

now Im sad.
=\\</p>

looks like everyone who hasn’t got it is out of luck.

By the way, stats are

SAT 2300
ACT 35
gpa: 3.96, w4.67
EC’s very good, but nothing spectacular

Son didn’t get any email yet :(

SAT 2310
GPA 3.75 (UW), 4.43 (W)

Yeah, I didn’t get one either with 2320 SAT and 4.0 UW GPA. I guess it’s more competitive than I thought.

Here the results for 2011:

Clearly, grades are NOT everything for the PS program …

Well, grades definitely are not everything - PS is looking for the next generation of leadership at Tech, so while half of the semifinalists have over a 2300 on the SAT, that doesn’t guarantee anything. H/s activities, leadership, essay… all are considered :)

Hmm, I really think they must care about essays. I have much lower scores than you guys but got PSP sf. 2100 and 33 act, 4.0 gpa. but i wrote a decentish essay… However, I only know 2 people who did end up getting the scholarship and they had 2400s… :/

@iwantivies: I can assure you that the SAT-score is NOT the key-criteria for the scholarship.

Once you are a semi-finalist, I am convinced, the grades are 2nd priority, and your personality & interviewing-skills get much more important. They want to see something in you that gives them the impression that you are going to be a leader on campus and later in life! Whatever it is, but I can assure you, it’s not grades!

My son is a PS (only partial scholarship, not the full-ride; and he didn’t have 2400 on his SAT, either … only 2390 ^^) and I know that many of his PS-colleagues had SATs significantly lower than his - and some of them received the full-ride.

So - it’s definitely NOT grades! BTW, I think the school does a great job with this program - starting at selection of the candidates and ending at the program & support they offer to the PS scholars! My son, at least has ‘the time of his life’, as he says!
