will my reading score be my downfall?

I've already applied EA to UChicago, but I am looking at other schools!
HELP! tis you i need the most

Alright I’m going to answer this one— a little later. I have to go to dinner right now, but I’m an astrophysics/aerospace engineering major and I want to talk about all I can.

One os son’s roommates is a Physics major–he is very smart! Son is an aero major and goes to him for occasional help. I think the physics dept must be pretty top-notch as this kid’s dad was also a physics major with a grad degree from MIT. I think he must have wanted him to attend ND. Good Luck, your stats look awesome!!

I cant see you getting rejected.

the only problem is I am not a permanent resident or a green card holder.. this, pardon me, f-u-k-s everything up for me.. and its making me frustrating..
I mean, I dont qualify for a full ride to TCNJ.. or the scholarship to Rutgers.. and I am really confused bec/ I messed everything up for UCHIcago application.. its really bad.. bec/ they want my TOEFL score? and I dont think I have to take it.. >.<
Please someone help me w/ my status.. PM me..
and will this screw up my chances for notre dame?

and I recently had my interview with Chicago.. it went absolutely amazing.. they guy said, “I candidly think you are the most mature and qualified candidate for the college i’ve encoutered in recent history..” I am really good with interveiw, really good, so I hope the itnerview w/ ND bumps up my chances..

thanks

Make sure your glaring cockiness doesn’t show through on your application. ND isn’t looking for kids who are applying as a safety school.

I am really good with interveiw, really good, so I hope the itnerview w/ ND bumps up my chances..

Notre Dame does not interview applicants.

Your Asian Club membership implies that you are of Asian descent; is that correct? If so, that helps - I believe you would be given some preference in the applicant pool as an underrepresented minority. Your stats look good overall.

Good luck!

“Make sure your glaring cockiness doesn’t show through on your application. ND isn’t looking for kids who are applying as a safety school.”

Yea, I get that impression too:

“I will have great essays”
So you think. You’re essay doesn’t seem to focus too much on you. Seems like just you trying to sound intellectual.

“effing great recs”
Another example: and would you really want your teacher to say you did well on no effort? Because that doesn’t give the right impression.

I would just make sure you don’t eff up the application. You already did it at UChicago, and you don’t seem to know much with regards to ND. No interview. One essay, not essays. Not sure about your supplements.

haha.. i c, srry guys, didnt mean to..

well.. I think I represented myself well on Chicago app.. but just messed up on some things which I mailed to them afterwards.. well, srry i’m sounding cocky, I am not like that at all in real life.

For chicago.. i had 2 supplements, both researches..

and forget about what i said about my essays and recommendation.. this thread i poseted i made a long time ago.. before i applied.. and for my essays.. its about me.. and it came out good, i’ll be more than happy to PM it :)

thank you very much guys, I really appreciate it all

My roommate is a physics major, and he is already doing nuclear research. We have a great program for undergrads.

danbrenn who is your roommate?

PutschCasusBelli, I sent you a PM.

ah ty e1 for the insight..

though anyone else on my chances??

what should I most concentrate on my application?!

I’d focus on humility.
Really.
And I’d think twice about including your long list of clubs and activities. Were I reading your application, I’d wonder how many of these organizations you joined solely to enhance your resume.

You know, God works in funny ways. I can totally see you getting rejected, I’d bet it would be the most humbling experience of your life.

PS- That history rec doesn’t sound too great, IMO. You doing well while not trying is about the last thing the admissions committee wants to hear, because at ND, everyone is at least as accomplished as you are.

I don’t know, maybe I’m crazy, but you don’t seem like the ND type by the way you presented yourself in this thread. Apply only if you are confident that ND is a strong fit for you.

That was my impression as well. Go ahead and have your teacher send in a rec that says you coasted–I cannot believe you think that is something to be proud of.

And all those extra recs? Won’t help and can even hurt. IIRC ND admissions doesn’t like people who are constantly crowing about how special they are and that somehow the VERY clear instructions on the application don’t apply to their very special selves.

okay, I see that theres a misunderstanding for which I cannot blame you guys..

to make things clear

  1. I typed up this thread on Word months before I applied to anyyy colleges.. so the recs. did not turn out the way they did, and my essays are totally different.. I understnad what you mean by my History Rec.. and I assure u it is not the same, though it was something which impressed her.. Ive read the recs..
  2. I do not “brag” on my college apps.. I only put 5 of my best activities which show my real passion.. and I am not conceited in any way in the application, nor do I try to stuff the turkey just for the fun of it.. this thread was just there because I laid out allll the tools so u can judge correctly..
what you see here is DEF not what I put, or choose to put, on my college apps..

Since my original comment for chances seems a bit misleading.. I will sum up my primary emphasis and how I portray myself on my Apps! and lets see if that changes my chances haha

2080 SAT
SAT II.. 770 Physics, 710 MAth II, 800 Bio
AP: 5’s on History and Bio

Strongly ranked Tennis player and Varsity cap’n of tennis team.. also did varsity track.. Vice president of NHS.. School representitive.. Distnguished tutor (I have immmmense tutoring experience)… Varsity Quiz Bowl (Top 4).. these are my main ones..

2nd in North Jersey rankings for Scinece Fair, Category Physics, 2 times ina row..
US Physics Talent
MSU G&T program.
Faculty level reasearch at Rutgers, 400+ hours..
Independently completed 2 of my own research projects…

Thats the main things in my resume, all the other stuff I talked about before is nothing.. please disregard.. and I am sorry that I sounded cocky, for which I blame myself .. :)

Thank you so much guys!

I think you have a decent chance. SATs aren’t great, though decent. Something like 80% of the applicants played a varsity sport, and a large number were captains, so that isn’t your “hook.” So basically it will come down to your essays. The faculty research thing is good though.

PS–I also hope you aren’t that cocky in person. Colleges hope they are accepting the person that comes through on the application, not one that had to restrain themselves merely to attain common decency.

I think you’ll get in because of the whole research bit.

UChicago’s a toss up just because of the whole essay thing. It would really come down to how much you showed a fit there.
