Well, things just got very real: DD received her first college acceptance packet today, from the University of Minnesota. It was a shock to see the large, brightly colored envelope in the mailbox, with "Congratulations!" written in inch-high letters across the front.

She likes the BA program at Univ of Minn, but is also auditioning for the Guthrie BFA program - it's probably her toughest audition, but she figured she might as well give it a shot!

I expect she will receive her share of small, thin envelopes before this is all done (she's applying to 14 schools, some BA, some BFA, some "long-shots" and some "safeties," auditioned and non-auditioned). But wow, nice to start off with a "yes"!

MH… My S also applied to U Minn… and thinks the BA program sounds fabulous… his application was complete at the end of last week. How long did it take to hear about the acceptance after her app was complete?

Congratulations to your D, I forgot that in my last post:) Mine got his app and all materials in a few weeks ago, so we will probably have at least a month before he hears anything it looks like.

Just wanted to chime in about one of my S’s EA schools that, which looks like from everything we have read, has a fantastic BA in theater( they don’t have a BFA), in a city with a thriving arts culture. The school is College of Charleston, in South Carolina. Check it out. It seems like it would be a great place to be a college student. I’ve been to Charleston and it is the most charming city!!! Great restaurants too.

I have never been to Charleston, SC but my friends who lived/lived there like it a lot!!! I suspect it would be great place to attend college too

For us, so much depends on what the FA packages look like, so I don’t expect her to take any schools “off the list” until all the info is in hand from all the schools.

That is true MH and MH, I’ve heard Minn is pretty decent with out of state costs. and bissou, mine is mostly going for BA programs but with an admission letter in hand, and likely admission plus full tuition to a second school, his motivation level to get rest of apps completed really dropped(other than school we discussed last night). So by default, yes he seems to be dropping schools. if it was me and I got into an EA school, i don’t know. I’d be tempted to drop any of my maybe schools and only keep the ones I really thought i wanted to go to. on the other hand, the visits are important and sometimes that wow school online is only meh when you get there while another school becomes fabulous once you have time to spend time on campus and with the drama folks. So id say it’s best to keep as many options on the table as your kid can handle doing auditions for.
