And So This is Christmas...

Well, it's December on us - and Christmas music is a nagging reminder that the January 1st deadline is approaching fast.

I submitted my application last night to meet the Dec. 15th date for Princeton and Harvard, and I had a quick question: How badly are my admission chances affected by applying mid December? Yes, I know I should have kicked it into gear before hand, and I have a thousand excuses I could give. Anyways, are a majority of applicants selected for admission BEFORE the December month?

Thanks!

Oh, and just for giggles, here's my little breakdown.

ACT - 33
SAT II's - Language(770), Biology(690), Math II(660)
AP Classes - Language (5), Calc BC (4 with 5 subscore), Biology (3), and Chem, Literature, Stats, Physics, and Psychology are pending scores in May.
GPA - 3.85 Unweighted. Yes, I've taken every single course that is advanced or AP (and tested out or ind. studied several).

EC's

Holly Hotel (4 star restaurant) - 30 hours a week of work.
Holly Candle Shoppe (family owned, started in May) - 10 hours a week of work.
Five Dual Enroll Classes over the past year.
Self Owned Lawn Care Service.
Treasurer of the NHS at my school.
Robotics Club VEX Captain.

I'm sure that paints a decent picture of my grades and such. Once again, I give you my beforehand appreciation for responses!

What December 15th deadline? I saw none

Sorry to worry you, I meant the recommended December 15th deadline to get your App in. It’s just suggested, not a hard deadline.

^ For Harvard the suggested deadline was Dec 1 NOT Dec 15.

30 hours a week job!? During the SCHOOL year or in summer?

I had less hours in the summer, actually. This is the busiest season for restaurants, after all. The money helps out quite a bit with car payments and everything else - but I don’t have a weekend anymore.

Those SAT II scores look a bit low for Princeton and Harvard… seems like you should be in the mid to high 700’s for those schools…

I think your class RANK will come into play a LOT (it does at my D’s school). And…to answer your actual question - I don’t really think it matters a whit when you sent it in. Harvard started sending my D e-mails a long time ago because she’d named them on her Common App but worked on it for months. So they knew to EXPECT an application but weren’t getting one. It’s because they don’t have ED/EA anymore…so they REALLY want to “get started”, you know? They just hope to prod more applicants into applying early so they won’t be crazy rushed come January. I think you have basically the same chance as you would if you’d filed 9/1, 11/30, or 12/31.

Agree, weighted GPA is important as a function of your class rank. A 3.85 could be val, sal, or 20th percentile, depending on the school.

When you sent in the app is not important. How strong your stats and ECs are.

None. Zero. Nada. Zilch.
