Representing for all Matheyites  on CC!!! If there are any '09/'08 Mathey's on the board: Come on out and join the party :D ;) :p

What! No other matheyites representing? sits in lonely corner by herself :p

Litho (Ashley '06) - were you in Blair Hall a few years ago?

I'm here! Woo-hoo, go Mathey!

Yay!!! jssballet - what dorm are you in?

Campbell Hall

What dorm are you in, Gia? I'm in Blair. I was really glad to get into Mathey, it would have been my first choice, based on what I've heard about the various res colleges. And thanks for starting the thread.... I was feeling really left out of all the res college love before.

412 Joline Hall

woot woot go mathey! edwards here

My Mathey rooms were 215 Joline (freshman) and B42 Blair (sophomore). Now I'm over in Scully for the second of two years, and while the two-room double with private bathroom and air conditioning is very awesome, I do miss the hardwood floors and the gothic, and the proximity to Nassau Street and the U-Store. I never had a fireplace, or I'd miss that, too. Mathey Courtyard is so pretty, especially in the spring when the magnolias are blooming.

Ashley

Yeah, Mathey is so sigh.

I'm in Blair Hall, same as you Icargirl!! I think my room is on the second floor even though it starts with 0. Litho - how big are the doubles on Floor 2? Have you seen room 072?

My grandfather lives very close to Princeton, so I was there on Sunday. Since it was move-in day for a summer program, I was able to see my room (095). Although it was being used as a summer office, so the set-up had been changed, the common room area seemed fairly large, although the bedrooms were pretty small, and the beds were bunkbeds. Though it was hard to get a real sense of it, what with the xerox machines, desk, and other appliances, it seemed like a nice enough room given the limited expectations one should have for dorms. The most serious problem, to me, is that the closest bathroom is in the basement, not on my floor. But of course, in terms of location/asthetics, we couldn't have done better!

Haven't been inside a Blair double. I've only seen one from the door, and at the time, I assumed it was the common room of a quad. However, 072 looks pretty nice... I think you've got bathrooms on your floor, and one of those fun little fireplaces. (Lots of people use them as a cute place to put their fridge...) It appears to be the same size as the common room of 82 and 62, one of which I have been in (can't remember which). That should give you plenty of space.

Ashley, what are the pros and cons of this room? Thanks

You've got it, or you're just curious?

Pros = It's a single in a great location in a renovated dorm, with an elevator very nearby. Across from the restrooms if you're male.

Cons = It's really tiny. I think it's 120-something square feet, which would be fine if it were square, but it's got a chunk cut out of the corner so a fair amount of that space is unusable. Don't bring much extra furniture; chances are, it won't fit.

The other Blair basement rooms are considered good, especially the singles. B92 Blair is a fun and spacious quad.

225 Joline Hall here! Mathey must be really nice from what I read here :) See you in less than two months! :)

My daughter is a B?2, but it is not a single, so maybe it is B62. So I was curious. Thanks for answering.

litho- by any chance have you ever been inside a Campbell triple?

mirela, you're directly upstairs from my freshman year room, 215. (And BTW, there's someone on Yahoo's Princeton '09 mailing list who will be living in 215.)

I've been inside one Campbell triple, 54. It was fairly small -- two rooms, at that time functioning as one (cramped) bedroom and one bigger common.

However, triples tend to vary greatly in size and shape; architecturally, few dorms are built to be mainly triples, so they are all exceptions to the rule in a way. What the layout will be like depends a great deal on the individual room. The ideal room configuration (how many beds in each room, whether or not to have a common room) is not always obvious, and in many cases something you're going to have to work out with your roommates. For that reason, I wish you good ones. :-)

I'll add that most people really like having a common room, even if it isn't the best distribution of space. Solves the different-sleep-schedules problem, anyway. Perhaps it's that they don't want to argue over who gets the private bedroom, and whose room gets walked through all the time...

Ashley

Mathey has BY FAR the best courtyard. This means you will want lawn chairs, beach towels, and such for certain parts of the year. I also recommend sporting equipment... esp. frisbees, volleyballs. (If you want to go all out, maybe a hibachi, but hide it from the fire inspectors. Maybe even an extra battery for your computer, to better enjoy your reading period.)
