And this list for your consideration . . .

No, we do not go to Unifieds. We will accept video audition submissions if a student absolutely cannot make it to campus for an in person audition, but highly recommend that students attend one of the on campus auditions in January or February. As part of the audition day applicants have the opportunity to tour the theatre building, meet with faculty and current students, and we have the opportunity to work with students during the audition/ interview.

MosDad,
I feel like your first post in this thread could be about my D! Except that you’re ahead of us… she’s a soph in HS right now and is much more in the investigative process than the list making/whittling and applying. It is very interesting to read the responses. She’s currently stressed about finding the balance between the higher level academic classes she is capable of and feels pressured to take and all the performing arts classes she wants and loves. I’m sure I’ll be on the cc discussions a lot trying to help her figure it all out. Good luck to your daughter and you! (Oh, and we’re even in CA!)

jbeansmom,

You are smart to start early. There are a lot of great people here. Much to learn. Dig in and ask lots of questions! As far as finding a balance… that’s a lifetime practice, eh? We preach that a lot at our house. Our D took several AP classes but never more than 2 per semester and in the senior year only one per… to allow for more time time to spend on college prep and other activities. So glad she made that choice.Good luck to you and your D! enjoy the ride!
