...and what you would contribute to the community

What kind of stuff am I supposed to say for a question that asks me this? Do I say things like... the activities I'll join? Or what?

Thanks for the help!

I had a lot of trouble with this question when I first saw it. Fortunately for me I was looking at the year prior application and never had to answer it. What would have made it especially tough is that the school in question accepts 13 persons a year, so each and every applicant better have quite a bit to contribute.

As for suggestions, I would go much deeper than activities you would join. Perhaps write an essay on the mind (yours specifically) and comment upon how you have that to contribute. Otherwise you could expand upon communities as a whole and the individual contributions of its constituents.

Please remember that I have never been accepted to any institution of higher learning.

what they are looking for with this type of question is what makes you unique. They don't want to create a homogenous atmosphere, but rather want to have many different people from many different backgrounds that can each contribute different ideas and perspectives to a situation/question. What makes you an individual? How are you different from the thousands of other students that are also applying to this college? What makes you stand out in a crowd? You may want to ask around, ask your friends and family, etc, if you're not sure about this.

Good luck!

(and I have been accepted into 6 institutions of higher learning and am attending my top choice)

What do other people say that you are good at?

Thanks for the help everyone, I just submitted this essay and wrote mainly about how I've moved to 11 schools/countries and would bring diversity/an international perspective/blah. It was part of a longer question so hopefully it worked :)

Meugenio, what school in question is this? It sounds like the Rice-Baylor program....
