Andover Chances

I am applying to Phillips Academy Andover for 9th grade and want to know my chances of getting in.

I am asian, speak Korean and English fluently, have studied Chinese for 5 years, Spanish for 2.5 years, and Japanese for 1 year.
I am on a swim team and a debate/speech club.
I play drums, and have played violin for 2 years and piano for a year.
I also have played football and basketball, and still snowboard.

My grades since sixth grade include 6 Bs and 47 A's.
I am in Algebra II/Trig in eighth grade.

Thank you.

Hi! I’m applying to Andover for freshman year as well - maybe we’ll end up in the same class?

Your aptitude for language is definitely unique, and even more so if you stressed your interest in your application/interview. Although you have a number of ECs, it may not be enough for schools prefer quality rather than quantity. (Don’t let this get you down though - it’s merely just an opinion. ) The fact that you’re taking Trig in eighth grade is impressive as well (at least that’s what my interviewer told me! I take trig outside of school), but of course there are a gazillion other asian applicants who are geniuses at math. You grades are not outstanding, but should be enough. (It’s better than mine at least! :/)

So the point is, I really don’t know and it can go both ways considering how your paper stats look. You have to remember that some applicants have a huge hook and your application is lacking in that aspect. Your best bet is to stress a unique interest or concern in the writing portion of the application while there’s still time. Good luck! :)

Oh and just to note, this post belongs in the Prep School Chances forum.

I’m applying to Andover as a 10th grader. I also have an aptitude for language – I speak various South Asian languages. If you are competitive on swim team, definitely send in your timings. Also, SSATs play a somewhat great role.

Oh yeah, and I got 99% in three of the four categories for the ISEE, and got a 98% in the other one.

Are you only applying to Andover?
