Andover Dorm/Roommate Assignments

Does anyone know when these are made for incoming Juniors? Do roommates have a chance to correspond before start of school? And does anyone have any thoughts on whether it is better for a Junior to live in a single or a double?

usually at any school they give you the name and like phone number etc during august so you can get to know them before school starts

You should try and get a single not because the rooms are better--they're not--but it means that if you have a single, you're in Rockwell (boys) or Nathan Hale (girls) which are simply the best dorms for freshman year. With girls it can be a little deceiving though--Nathan Hale has a couple doubles and Double Brick, which is practically as good, is all doubles.

But the bottom line: if you get a single you're in good shape.

What about for Lowers? I only vaguely remember something about new dorms.

Freshman are segregated into all-frosh dorms. For lowers uppers seniors they live together and the housing with all that is a completely different ball game...

Let me know if you have specific questions RE: non-frosh dorms.

In early August, you should find out about your specific room and who you're rooming with. They'll give you contact information for your roommate, because you're definitely supposed to try to get to know them before you both arrive on campus, ready to spend a year in (hopefully successful) cohabitation. I mean, a year is a very long time -- it's important to make a connection soon. :) Good luck... you're going to love Andover.

PS: As to the question of single vs. double, it all depends on what you're looking for from freshman year. If you're looking to do some hardcore studying, a single might be for you -- but if you have iPod speakers and an active social life, more people will end up living in your room anyway. If you really want to be thrust into friend-making situations to guarantee that sort of success, I say go double... mightn't it get lonely in a single? Like I said, it all depends.

I'll be a new junior at Andover so I guess there's a chance we'll be rooming together :P I'm pretty sure I put down that I wanted a double.

All Exeter Preps have doubles, right?

Thank you for all the information and advice. (BTW, I should have made clear that it's my daughter, not I, who will be attending Andover.)

Some Exeter Preps have singles. I'm not sure what the percentage of them is, but I visited some on my revisit.

Tom: Do they *request *singles, or do they just get a single randomly?

Hmm...I'm guessing they get the singles randomly, but I'm not really sure. I hope I get a roommate, though.

if you request for a single you're probably more likely to get one, but some girls do get singles randomly
