Andover Dorms

Can you tell me what furniture items are in a single dorm at Andover? Like desk, chair etc. etc. Also, do some dorm rooms have microwaves/fridges? Also, how big are they (20 ft by 20 ft) on average? Do they have air conditioning? How much storage is there? Are you allowed to bring furniture like bookcases etc. etc. Thanks!

Until such time as you are actually admitted to Andover or a similar school, perhaps your questions should be focused upon less specifics.

All dorm rooms have a bed, desk, chair, dresser, and closet. That’s it. The dorms are not air-conditioned. Since their are over 40 different dorms, there is no typical floor plan, but a single will be nowhere near 20 by 20. Microwaves are prohibited in the rooms as are TV’s, irons, hot plates, etc. Only proctors and prefects (dorm leaders) can have a refrigerator; exceptions are made for medical reasons. The common area will have a microwave and refrigerator as well as a TV and DVD player. Additional furniture may be brought, but I advise against it until you have actually seen your space. Plus you need to think about storing it after the school year ends. If you share a room, it is advised to talk to your roommate about additional furniture/rugs etc for any shared space. Storage is under your bed.

Thanks! I’m actually going to Andover this fall as a sophomore! I’m just using my sister’s account. She’s gonna apply as a junior for Fall 2015!

All dorm rooms (at least all that I’ve seen) come with a bed, chair, desk, 6 or 5 drawer dresser, and a closet or wardrobe. Some also have an additional padded chair/couch thing. I think all dorms have a kitchenette, which includes a microwave and refrigerator. I have no idea what the dimensions of rooms are. No dorms have air conditioning to my knowledge, although there may or may not be one freshman girl single in Isham that’s partially air-conditioned. You are allowed to bring furniture like bookcases, but they have to pass fire safety regulations that are given to all incoming students.
