I was wondering if day school students at the top BS have are difficult time fitting in with the rest of the boarding students? It seems like day students would have a harder time meeting their classmates without the boarding factor.

What is the ratio of day to boarding students at schools like Andover, Exeter, Deerfield...?

Also is it easier to get accepted if you apply for Day rather than Board?????

Thanks

It is typically harder to get in as a day student.

At exeter 1/5 of the kids are day students. I really don't know about any of the other stuff.

Statistics show that it is harder to get in as a day student. And from what ive seen its not hard to fit in as a day student. Most stay a lot longer than just the class hours and spend time in the dorms, playing on athltic teams ect...

I think Exeter requires you to board if you live within a certain mile-radius of the school. I feel like NMH probably does too, because all of the local kids are day students.
I asked my son about the day-students feeling left-out question. He is not a day student, but he has many friends who are. He says they might miss out on a bit, but they don't tend to congregate just with one another and at his school, day students are strongly encouraged to remain at the school on weekends. They have rooms in the dorms for day students to stay in.

Deerfield requires anyone that lives in the same County to be a day student (funny since you can live 10 minutes away and board and an hour away and HAVE to be a day student.)
It really depends on the school as far as fitting in. For some it is harder than others. For ALL, it is an extra commitment on the parents part - as others have said, it's not picking them up after sports - most stay for dinner, evening clubs, etc. and come back on the weekends.

I guess it's not that bad being a day student--you'd probably get to join in just as many activities as the boarders do.

But personally, I'd think that being a day student...just...I dunno. I think it makes you miss out on a few opportunities.
