Andover vs. Exeter

I'm such a Harry Potter Gryffindor nerd. I thought it was a Griffin...

But really: EXETER!!! does dance

technically a lion rampant (but really, what is that)

Now, those are the questions.

Why start an Andover vs. Exeter thread when there are more important questions to discuss (especially when the answer is obviously EXETER!): What in the world is a lion rampant?!?

A rampant lion?
A lion gone rampant?
A rampaging lion?

The world may never know.
(Until someone googles it.) :D

bump xDDDD

rampant lion is one of exeter's mottos.

This rubbish has got to stop .... there are FAR more important things to talk about. It's the existance of utterly pointless self gratifiying threads like this that tick me off. Get real ... and have a nice day :). You guys just validated everything said in this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/559117-did-god-go-exeter.html

lay off kafkareborn.

is kafkareborn going to exeter? if so, that's quite ironic and disturbing lmao

No he isn't. He won't tell people his school because apparently "we'll burn it"

Andover-6 , Exeter- 5

?
tenchar

the answer is Tuchar.

italianboarder: I don't think Exeter's viewbook is very accurate. It seems to gloss over the less appealing aspects of life at Exeter and emphasize the fun parts so that you come out with this (mistaken) impression that life at Exeter is fun and carefree and all that. I'm not trying to say that life at Exeter is all hard work and no play, because everyone has fun in their own way here.
This is all based on what I'm seeing right now at Exeter and what I've heard from past and present students here at Exeter.

Whoops. I thought page seven was the last page. Oh, well.

Anyways I thought "non sibi" was Exeter's motto (and Andover's). But what the crap is a "rampant lion"?

Did EA fix the roof that was falling in on the gym ? The worst POS architecture ever .

Hmph. I have finally read through this thread.

This rivalry seems unnecessary. These schools, despite small differences (like that Andover kids sent less to Harvard last year. I'm sure someone who researched against Exeter could dig up some bad things as well), produce the same kind of kids with their methods although some may lean a bit more towards math or English.
It seems to me like "Harkness" is not all that revolutionary, as in my current school we have discussion in lecture-style classroom set-up. I'm sure it works well though. A "lion rampant" is a way of drawing a lion on a crest and shows a lion on two legs in a fierce uproar.
I, along with others it seems, would like to hear more about swim and sink, and more about what people feel distinguishes their schools other than sports. What sort of Extracurriculars dominate the two? What is teaching like at Andover and in what classes does Andover use "Harkness"? How do their class choices differ (Andover has a multitude of foreign languages, and has classics, philosophy, and psychology)? I also want to know the REAL work load....How much time it takes. Lastly with boarding, can a sophomore get a single their first year.

I am probably going to Andover and would like to say that their communication with me has been superb. I was not lucky enough to do an on campus interview and had to interview with an Alumnus, but Mrs. Fried wrote me a nice note on my acceptance letter and the 10th grade class officer called to compliment my application. Andover's campus, while not as beautiful it seems (I didn't apply to Exeter do I know not), is at least close to a large city.

I also noticed the Exeter-lovers seemed to make more grammatical errors, but that is probably due to their rampant nature.

Edit: Oh, woops. I didn't see how old this thread was, sorry.

Hey Guys, I’m considering applying to Andover as a lower. And as students/affiliates, I was kind of hoping you could help me out a little bit. I really want to apply, but my previous grades aren’t the best becuase I’ve had four open heart surgeries, six cardiac catheterizations and 2 EP studies. Will this hurt my chance of admission? I’m 14 and am going to be a freshman this fall. My grades are great, I volunteer at a retirement home. I play Guitar, piano, organ, and sitar. I write poetry, and I have found a potential cure for cystic fibrosis. I also have strong reccomendations from my teachers and colleagues(I do some work at hospitals locally) Do I stand a chance around Andover’s admission table? Please help! Thankyou so much.

“I have found a potential cure for cystic fibrosis.”

… @_@;

Your comments are very helpful especially to a parent of a new upper at Andover this fall. In your opinion does entering as a more mature upper versus junior appear beneficial?
