Im really not sure if this is the right place to post this...
but ANYway.
I was recently accepted to these schools.. and I honestly don't know which one is better
Because I am international, it'd be really difficult for me to re-visit..

WHile Andover has a really high reputation, Lawrenceville's matriculation is also very very impressive..

All three shcool are good. Hoever each school is different from other.

Andover is one of the largest school and is located in urban setting.
Hotchkiss is smaller and located in a rural setting.

Andover and and Hotchkiss are part of HADES Schools. Considered the top 5 schools.

If you are from China, Hotchkiss maye be better due to their program.

It all depends where you fit in and what you are looking for?

This year 2010, it seem Hotchkiss has the lower Acceptance rate compared to Andover and Lawrenceville. This doesn’t mean a thing. (Andover applciation fee was only $20 so more poeple apply too).

If you are very independent, you may be happy at Andover. Andover Program could be more challenging then Hotchkiss, depending on what courses you select. If you select AP courses they are more difficult at Hotchkiss.

Hotchkiss has some of the best facilities. Most beautiful campus. Its has a small community close net family feeling.

Lawrenceville would be my last choice compared to the other two you listed.

But from what i’ve known… Lawrenceville’s matriculation is slowly overtaking the other schools… correct me if im mistaken tho

does this mean that i would have a higher chance to go to a top university at l’ville?
or do i actually get a better chance at andover/hotchkiss?

HADES is not considered the top 5 schools. This is why I hate this acronym. It gives too many false notions.

Don’t pay attention to reputation. Really try to go to the revisit days and see which one gives you that click feeling. That is how you tell which school is best.

And yes, Lawrenceville’s matriculation is impressive (Princeton, Columbia, & UPenn), but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to get into those colleges from another BS. If you’re a great qualified person, the colleges will accept you whether you’re from Hotchkiss, Andover, or L’ville.

What are you looking for in a school? Suburban or rural, lots of students or less students? I would go on boardingschoolreview.com and compare the stats for each school. I think the info there is outdated, but maybe it gives a general look.

I would say Andover (and yes, partially because of the reputation, but also because it’s more competetive. My genius friend got waitlisted there but got into l’ville and hotchkiss). But any of the three are amazing and congrats you should be sooooo excited! Remember you’ll be living there for 4 YEARS- it’s basically college except you’re younger. So just do what will make you HAPPY, because any one you choose is a great choice and will provide you with a great education!

To a certain extent, as long as you’re academically qualified, the decisions are based heavily on the “right” fit. Maybe the admission officers at Andover sensed that your friend would be a better fit elsewhere. I know that there are many people who got rejected to Exeter but accepted to Andover, but that doesn’t make Andover significantly less prestigious than Exeter. I also know that there are over-qualified people who got rejected/waitlisted to low tier schools but gained acceptances to top tier ones.

I second this statement. I didn’t get into Loomis but I got into Exeter. Does this mean Loomis is better than Exeter? No, they just judged for fit. (I also think Loomis has Tufts, but whatever.)

I got a “college-y” feeling from Exeter, and I feel like Andover would be a similar environment. I didn’t apply to Andover or Hotchkiss, so I don’t think I can judge those beyond that… I got a very “casual” feeling from Lawrenceville, but I liked the house system.

Consider your athletics/arts and which has the strongest in those fields. Like Loomis has a stronger English program than say… Cushing. Since I’m a Humanities person, I would’ve chosen Loomis out of those two. But St. Paul’s School has the better dance program AND strong academics so I might’ve gone into that direction instead.

I knew when I visited back in the fall. I’d recommend trying to revisit. There’s so much that can look good on paper but horrible in person.
