"i understand that lawrenceville's university placement is slowly overtaking the other prep schools"
Who did you understand that from?

Andover is far better than Lawrenceville. No question about it!

The best way to decide is to go on the revisit days, if you can. My ds chose L'ville last year over a higher rated school. He went with his gut feeling even though we strongly preferred the other one. His friend chose Andover over L'ville. They are both happy. They are similar schools, with large day populations. My ds says L'ville is a happy place with really nice kids. This year his friends who are seniors seem to have done well in early decision/action placements. My feeling is that Andover might have more academically competent kids. The day students have been integrated very well into L'ville - many of them stay late in school and get picked up after dinner, they also sleep over Saturday nights, so my ds has friends among both day and boarding students.

Lawrenceville is also getting really competitive. Last year the acceptance rate was about 19% - not sure about this year.

I would not say Andover is WAY better than Lawrencville. That is false. Andover and Lawrenceville are about the same with Andover probably having a slight edge in more departments. The schools are essentially the same. It is like trying to compare Princeton and Yale ....

My impression of L'ville was that there was not much interaction between the grades because of the unique housing system for freshmen and seniors. Is that incorrect?

Is it just me or do you guys feel there is a quantity of mis- information coming out of the College Counselors in Asia? Perhaps they spew it in order to herd applicants into certain schools.
Emdee - the few years I was at Lawrenceville, we had very little interaction between the grades due to the housing situation and some very old traditions. Juniors and sophomores lived together, seniors had their own building , and 8th and 9th graders were in Lower. btw the 8th grade is gone and the school is coed. Anyone with more current information than mine from the dark ages?

Sarum I thought you were a SPS alum..?

No, I am not. I started at Lawrenceville 8th & 9th grade, then ended up at Salisbury for the last three years. Salisbury was a blast, Lawrenceville was not.

Nevermind Salisbury was what it was. I couldn't remember if you played football for salisbury or SPS.

definitely choose andover.
it is the better school, imho.
i got rejected and im not putting them down for it.
even though it was the only school i applied to, and im devastated.
i understand this year was a hard year for them. they had the most applications EVER THIS year. :-/
their acceptance rate was 16.9% so wow.

Andover. I got rejected too, and I'd really like the chance to go, so don't waste yours.

i would say that andover is better, but then again, it depends on your interests
you may find that lawrenceville is more suited to your tastes- but that depends on wat they are

Go on the revisit days and see which you like better based on the "feel". As far as college placement goes, I think both schools have the potential to get you into an excellant school. Lawrenceville specifically gets a lot of kids into Princeton, so if that is the college of your dreams, then Lville is a good option.

Feel is overrated. Go to the schools and subjectively and objectively asses all aspects of the school. Feel can be a factor, not a decisive one.

Do not go to Lawrenceville based on college matriculation, bad idea. If anything, you are more likely to get into HYP if you stay at your local school.
