For the graded writing assignment that Andover wants me to hand in, can I edit and revise the graded assignment before handing it in?
You shouldn’t as the writing sample is a reflection of how your school grades students on their work. Additionally, the writing sample should have teacher’s notes on it, which should also include the grade that was received on the paper, if you were to edit the paper, the notes from the teacher wouldn’t be there, unless the paper is handwritten. Additionally, the notes from the teacher may not make sense at that point as you could have fixed the errors that the teacher has written on the paper, which could raise suspicion about the honesty in your application.
Editing the paper would cause for a false perception from the admissions officers of how tough your school grades as if you edit it and the paper increases in quality, it makes your school seem like it grades harsher and that you are used to an academically rigorous school when in reality, you might not be. While that may seem great, it is unethical for you to do so as it gives you a possible unfair advantage in the admissions process.
i dont think the schools pay much attention to the actual content of your graded essay. most schools just use it to compare your “writing style” in the graded essay to the “writing style” in your applicant essays. it’s just to make sure that you were the one who wrote your application essays.
same goes with the SSAT essay that we write before the test. schools use it to rule out the dishonest people i guess?
apparently some families pay people to help write their essays for them, or sometimes parents write essays for their kids :-/ so the schools need to compare the essays to make sure that this didnt happen
im not sure if this applies to all the schools though.
anyways, dont worry too much about the graded essay 
the applicant essays for the schools matter way more. good luck for the admissions!!!
For me (I’m applying to Andover too), I didn’t change anything with my essay. I didn’t want to make it seem like I was one of those cheaters that apply to top boarding schools. Also, since the grades and feedback from your teacher should be shown, it might not make sense if you changed certain things.
I think they want you to include the teacher’s comments and the grade. I didn’t revise mine, and I don’t think they want people to revise theirs.
Wait, my writing assignment was online. Then how am I supposed to show that my teacher graded it and revised it?

Print out the essay and give it to your teacher, explaining that you need them to write notes on what you did well and incorrectly, to explain the grade of the paper as you need it to be able to apply to the school that you had asked them for a recommendation as it is a required part of the application, and remind them of when you need it back by, I’d suggest the day before the deadline to give you a buffer in case there are any technological or unforeseen issues. After they give it back to you, with notes, scan the document and submit it as a PDF file through Gateway.
