Angry and panicked

Terrific new, Shellybean!

Followed this thread, and so happy to read the update!!! (Although I expected as much). Congrats!!!

Shellybean, so happy to hear the good news! Best of luck to your son on his auditions!!

There are some excellent music schools in Georgia but unfortunately they require a bit higher SAT. Private schools have better aid.

soacialdramama, could you be more specific? What excellent music schools? Perhaps there are for classical, but I do not know of a single good or “great” school in Georgia for Jazz. I’ve lived here since 1976, went to high school here, and rejected every college because none have decent music programs, in my opinion. And at the time, my SAT was considered in the top 1%, so SAT didn’t keep me out. For jazz programs here, I don’t think any of them have a reputation or faculty that could even begin to rival UNT. Can you give me some suggestions?

Regarding Georgia: Georgia State has a great jazz program & also has a sliding scale automatic academic scholarship. Very affordable in state. Also Univ West Georgia, Columbus, UGA & Georgia Southern have programs but I am not sure of reputation. I have attended programs & workshops at Georgia State & have been impressed. Maybe someone has had experience with the other schools.

Emory also has Jazz offered. Not in Georgia but a friend’s son just got full ride jazz scholarship to University New Orleans after a gap year.
