Animation colleges.

Hello, this is my first post. I'm a graduating senior who is attending College for Creative Studies in Detroit this fall.

I'm going there for digital animation. I was just wondering if there were anyone else here who could give me some more insight on CCS or other good colleges for animations if CCS doesn't work out for me.

The thing that I find interesting about the animation department in CCS is that is part of the entertainment art which intertwine animation, game art, and film together. From what I read from the site, this is supposedly add to the learning experience of diversifying knowledge in multiple areas. However I worry that it might not put enough focus on the game animation portion.

Also there animation reel for the 2008 graduation students were ok. There was only one or two animations I kinda feel represents what I want to go for.

Sorry for posting so much info that may sound like nonsense to people outside of Michigan.
CCS tuition cost about 30,000$ every year. Plus its best majors are automotive art and advertising. However the rest is just the norm I think in basic private art schools.

So in conclusion I am thinking about attending it for one year to get a prospective of how a art school is before seeing if there is a better one out of state or staying put in CCS.

Some of the other schools I'm currently looking at are:
Ringling <- Seems to be the best in the nation for Digital animation but cost is still kinda high
Full Sail (Which I think is really cheap 15,000 a year I think ---Can someone explain why?)
Digi Pen (Really Expensive)

If you did a search, you would have found this thread here in this forum:

also, do a search for computer graphics forums run by the computer graphics society. There is a forum for colleges and schools.

Thanks a lot taxguy. I actually did a search in google and found a thread that lead me here which gave me a lot of insight in the schools out there already. However I was just wondering if anyone here knows a thing or two about the CCS school that I will be attending next year.

Hi, I went to CCS for 2 years and am transferring (decided I want to study Computer Science instead). CCS is GREAT school, and its incredibly rigorous. I wasn’t in the animation department, but you might just take a look at the courses they offer.

My experience with CCS was that, while mostly you take the same classes as everyone else in your major, you have the opportunity to self-guide what you put out. So in my upper level courses, we’d have project prompts but got to decide how we wanted to address it. Though this doesn’t apply to you, its a good example: in one of my classes, a few people made posters, a few designed books, someone did a film, and I made a website and app.

It is what you make of it. Yeah, all the money is in the Transportation department which is considered the best in the world, but that also means CCS is one of the most well funded private art schools out there. Considered the Best in the Midwest overall.

Be prepared to have no life and do around 60 hours of homework a week, along with typically 30 hours of physical class time.
