hey, so i applied and got into Pratt and SCAD, and was waitlisted at SVA. I’m looking to go into animation, and I’m thinking I’ll probably end up doing my emphasis in 2D.
Animation Career Review has put Pratt at number 8 in the USA; but I keep hearing people say how Pratt’s only valuable programs are Industrial Design and Architecture, and going there for anything else is a waste of money. It’s in a really good location near a lot of studio headquarters though, so internships and better paying jobs are more readily available than they would be in Georgia. I also have a better opportunity to make connections there, I think(?)
SCAD was ranked number 3 by ACR, but it was loads easier to get into, and I’m guessing I’ll have to move to California or New York after graduation to get a good paying job. They’ve been a ton more responsive and ready to help me with admission since acceptance, but overall, I just feel… weird? about the location of the school, and how large student-wise they are. I feel like I didn’t have to do much to get accepted. I hear Savannah is a good city, and the Animation program has a good employment rate after graduation, but I don’t want to overlook the importance of connections.
Overall, I guess what’s important is the college’s reputation? Does anybody know how SCAD is looked at by the animation industry versus Pratt? I know Calarts grads are the best, but I can’t really find anything else about how they’ll look at the rest of us hahah
I feel like SVA was the best medium between Pratt and SCAD so it’s a big bummer I’m waitlisted, but I have to make a decision really soon with tuition deposit deadlines coming up on May 1st
