Hello, there!!
I am currently deciding between the three schools for animation.
I am admitted by all three plus MICA Ringling and SCAD
By going to art schools, money is not my concern.
I am interested in both animation and illustration. Maybe in the future after some years, I would change and become a graphic novel artist or an illustrator. I am not particularly keen in working in huge companies, but I do want to have working experiences in the US before eventually going back to my own country.
I do enjoy cities, but at the same time, I don’t mind quietness.
I am just like you- an animation major, but I might switch to illustration. Im thinking about Pratt, SVA, and Ringling. I was also accepted to SCAD, SAIC, and PNCA. If you are interested in Ringling, I hope you are admitted to the illustration major or are doing what I’m doign and considering a transfer from CA to Illustration. Their CA program is super well known, but 3D animation is just so far from what I like to do as an animator/illustrator. Don’t know much about MICA, but I’d say Ringling illustration is your best bet program-wise of the three. SCAD gets a bad rep, I’ll admit, but to be fair their animation program only recently started getting good. You will have much better prospects if you go to MICA or Ringling.
RISD if you have same costs. Absolutely.
My kid is VERY interested in CCA for illustration, partly because of the location. But many people say that if she gets accepted to RISD or Pratt, she should go there instead because of the prestige and the greater likelihood of getting work. Does anyone have an opinion about this? The student work they show on the CCA Web site looks spectacular, and the faculty all appear to be seasoned professionals doing work for the very best publications, etc…wouldn’t she do just as well there??
