I know that the Game Design concentration has won accolades and was named as the one of the top three such programs in USA by Princeton Review

Does any one have any ideas about how good the Animation and Visual Arts Major at Drexel is? Are the professors/lecturers good? Are good co-op opportunities available easy eg. with Disny, Pixar, Dreamworks etc.

Is the course more art inclined or more technology inclined?

Any insights, especially from current students would be appreciated.

I am wondering the same. My daughter is extremely interested in this major. he has more art talent than technical. As far as reputation goes, I have looked at the curriculum for both this and the gaming major and they are nearly identical for the most of the four years, so I am going to assume that it will be an excellent course. I am also wondering how scholarships are given out for Westphal.

I believe the Digital Media program won top ten best by Princeton Review last year. This year the Digital Media program is now broken into three tracks: Game Design, Animation and Visual Effects, and Website Design. For the first two years the program curriculum is pretty much the same. The couple main professors are really cool and for the most of the level 100 classes you will get adjuncts and other professors. From what I’ve heard a Pixar co-op is extremely hard to get as they tend to recruit from CalArts, but I have heard of graduates now work for Dreamworks and Universal.

There is also a club for Digital Media students called SIGGRAPH that will help you network with these big companies (including Pixar) and students can go to yearly conventions during the summer and volunteer. There you can get your feedback for you reel from people at Disney and such. There is also a job fair there than some students get a job right on the spot (One kid never came back to Drexel).

Also I believe in a year or two the new URBN center will be finished which will house all COMAD students and have new computer labs and all that jazz. Lastly I believe the Animation track is the least technically inclined out of all of them. There are only a couple programming courses that are required and Animation itself isn’t all too technical.
